• 1. ODF Support in Office 2008?
I have a client that is exclusively using ODF - in the eitire corporation. I like how they use open source software throughout the entire corporation, but this presents a problem for those of us who use Office 2008. DOes Office 2008 Support ODF? From what I researched, there is no update available that will give Office ODF support. Is that true?
  • 2. Apps Quitting
Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. When I use the "Save As" function in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, it saves the file then quits unexpectedly. Help!
  • 3. Snow Leopard Compatibility (possible solution)
Hi all. Well, after following numerous suggestions here (thanks to everyone for your efforts), this is what worked for me. PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION: I was prepared to do a clean install of Snow Leopard and restore my system from a backup. If you cannot do this, please do not try the method I used below. I would hate for you to lose your important files and data. It sounds radical, but I was at my wits end. On a whim, I used the program EasyFind to search for "fontd" in everything, including invisible folders. I deleted everything that came up (some of which required my admin password because the files where either hidden or some such other thing. Then I did the following (this is VERY IMPORTANT--follow carefully because you will not be able to restart your system once you delete the files noted above): 1. Connected my external drive with a bootable copy of Snow Leopard on it and restarted my machine. 2. Reinstalled Snow Leopard. 3. Updated to 10.6.1. 4. Repaired permissions. 5. Ran Font Book to remove any duplicate fonts. Word now runs without crashes. I can copy and paste from any application once again. Wow.
  • 4. AutoUpdate not finding updates
Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I'm setting up a brand new MacBook Pro that's running 10.5.8. I installed Office 2008 from the disc and ran AutoUpdate from the installation wizard. It checks and comes back that there are no updates. The disc I have only has 12.0.0 versions of all the apps, so there are at least 3 updates it should find. What gives? I've checked permissions already. I've rebooted several times. Why would AutoUpdate not work on a brand new computer with a first-time install?

1.can't install equation editor

Hello,

I am trying to install the equation editor from my Microsoft Word v.X
install CD, but have been stymied so far. I first insert the CD, double

click on the value pack folder, and open the value pack installer.
Everything seems to work fine to that point. I then select the Equation

Editor from the available option in the value pack installer, and I
click continue. After a couple of seconds of processing, an error
message comes up:

Error creating file.
1008:5,-5000 Access denied error

"OK" is the only option, which then brings up "An error occurred that
prevented the process from completing."

Does anyone have any insight into this problem? I'm running OS X
version 10.3. I'd really like to install equation editor.

Thanks for any assistance!

2.MS Word equation editor won't open when double-clicking on an equation

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I created a document (.docx) using the Office 2008 version of MS Word some time ago (2 months or so). Recently I wanted to correct an equation in that document and re-opened the document (on the same system and with the "same" copy of Word) and attempted to double-click the equation to edit it. Instead of the equation editor I get the "Format Picture" dialog box. In the interim I did install an update (I tend to try to stay up to date) and am at 12.2.4 (100205).

The application will let me create new equations just fine. How can I get my document back to an editable state?

3.Can't install equation editor

Did you specifically select the Equation Editor from Microsoft Office Tools
when you reinstalled? Do you not see Microsoft Equation 3.0 listed under
Insert | Object | Create New?

4.Can't get equation editor installed

Hello,

I've followed Suzanne's instructions posted in another thread:
"2. Equation Editor is not installed by default (in the Typical
installation). If you don't find Microsoft Equation 3.0 listed in the Insert
| Object dialog, then you will need to install it. Go to Control Panel |
Add/Remove Programs, select Microsoft Office, and click the Change button.
In the first page, select "Add or Remove Features." On the next page, expand
"Office Tools." Select Equation Editor and set it to "Run from My Computer."
Click the Update button, and insert the Office CD when prompted."

Microsoft Equation Editor still doesn't show up in my list in the
Insert/Object window. I've tried and retried this install and I'm still
getting the same result.
I'm using Microsoft Office xp for small business, if that matters.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks very much for any help!

5.Equation Editor - Can't Consistently Edit Equations

I am an experienced user of Equation Editor in Word 2003 SP2. I am using
Windows XP SP2. My problem is that I can create equations in my document but
I cannot change the font type or size. I know how to do it, but when I go
into the style or size menus nothing happens. I cannot move the checkmark
from the default selection. I tried reinstalling Equation Editor, but that
didn't help.
Thanks
Dave
