• 2. error message in microsoft programs
Today when I tried to open powerpoint an error message popped up saying:

The application powerpoint could not be launched because of
a shared library error: <microsoft powerpoint><apple; carbon; multimedia><CFMPriv_Quicktime>

I get this same message whenever I attempt to open word, and excel. • 4. Transfer to New Computer
I have a new MacBook and just installed Office Mac Home & Student Edition; however, I had to install Office twice on this computer because of problems encountered. Have I just used up two of my three instillation privileges? On the first try I could not register because my PID was stated as invalid. On the second try I was not asked about the PID or the Product Key.

After all this the computer is now going to be replaced by Apple because of hardware problems. What do I have to do load Office on the new computer so as not to loose another of my three instillation privileges?
  • 5. In Test Account login, how get 2008 to see current identity? Test Acct vs. Safe Boot?
    1. If I log into the Test Account I created in the System folder and then launch Entourage, the setup assistant wants to import an Office 2004 identity rather than give me an option to use the current identity created with Office 2008. Your counsel, please? 2. If there are no problems in running Office 2008 component applications when in Safe Boot startup mode, how would re-booting into Normal startup mode and logging into Test Account help in isolating/diagnosing problem causes? Respectfully, Norm

Cannot open Word 2007 doc

Postby wclark » Sun, 16 Sep 2007 04:13:30 GMT

I have a Mac G5. Mac OS X 10.4.10. I am receiving documents that are
attached to emails that were created using Word 2007. The documents
have the extension ".doc"

I am running Office for Mac and the Word program is Version 11.3.5.

Any advice?

Bill

If the documents have the extension .doc, you should be able to open
them. Files with extension .docx (note the x) would require you to
download the beta converter. Can you confirm you didn't misread or
mistype and they are really .doc? (no x)

Let's eliminate some common issues:
--try both double-clicking the doc and using File | Open from within Word
--if you are using Entourage, check your Tools | Accounts [AccountName]
Options settings and make sure that you don't have emails over a certain
size set to only partially download. If you do, the doc won't open
because it isn't all the way there.

Hello,
further to what Daiya has said. When you check that the messages are
not partly left on the server (Daiya second note) open your message
and save the file to any place (do not click on the attached file to
open, save it). Start word and see if you have checked in Preference
attachment by word - either drag and drop your document on the W icon,
or open word and do file>open. You might be asked by now about
conversion of your document (that happens if you check the confirm
conversion option and the file you want to open is not native Word
document).
Let us know, how you did,
Good luck

1.Cannot open Word 2007 doc even with Compatibility Pack installed

I have been sent a Word 2007 document by e-mail (.docx) and as I am running
Word 2003, it won't let me open it. I went onto the Microsoft website and
downloaded the 2007 Compatibility Pack and installed it, but still can't get
the document to open.

When I try to open the doc, it comes up with the following message: This is
a pre-release version of the Compatibility Pack and can open pre-release
Office 2007 files only. Do you want to check for a newer version of the
Compatibility Pack?

If I click on Yes, it takes me to the webpage where I downloaded the pack in
the first place. According to the webpage it *IS* the current version and not
the beta or anything (I have downloaded it again and re-installed it just to
be sure), so I don't know where to go from here.

Anyone got any ideas?
