Why does my iPod have "radio" in the Main Menu? No idea what it is for. I can listen to internet radio in iTunes, but I can't seem to subscribe or get podcasts of them. So WHY is there a "Radio" menu item in my iPod menu?
  • 3. OT - Search engines with subheadings
Several years ago Metacrawler was a wonderful search engine. When you input a general word (car for instance) it would give you a few subheadings (car for sale, car insurance, car accidents, car models, etc) that would really help in zeroing in on pertinent websites. Now there are no subheadings. If someone knows the term for subheadings please let us know. Or a search engine that presently does this.

System Prefs unavailable via Apple menu (was - Re: Can't access system preferences)

Been following this (and other) threads, but can't figure this one out.
I'm using a G4 dual 1 gHz with 10.2.6. Everything seems fine except I
can't access any of the preferences (system, location, dock) that are
given under the Apple menu. I've got the System Preferences icon in the
dock, and can access from there OK - just not from the Apple menu.

I tried logging in under a different (test) account, and everything's
accessible fine from the Apple menu in that account, so it's something
with my account - that much I get. But from there, I am clueless; is
there a preference somewhere that's munged? I've looked in the various
preferences folders but, frankly, don't see anything as obvious as
"make.apple.menu.items.work.plist"...

Try upgrading to 10.2.8.

1.system preferences fails to start form apple menu

I am running MacOS 10.2.6. I changed my uid via the ni application (I
forget the exact name of the program. ) I changed all the uid's in
the file system via:
  find / -user 501 -print -exec chown 1000 {} \;

Everything seems to work except that I cannot invoke the system
preferences via the apple menu nor can I change the time from the time
pull down. I can invoke the system preferences application by double
clicking on the application in the application folder.

I am not a 100% sure changing the uid's was the cause.

Remove the individual pref panes from /System/Library/PreferencePanes.
