1.How to setup Airport wireless to work with Virtual pc running xp pro
Hi all ,
I need some advice please. I am running virtual pc 6.1 that has
windows xp pro on it and I am sick of the speed of the Ethernet
network connection being only 10mb therefore I would like to be able
to setup virtual pc running windows xp to detect and use the macs
airport wireless to connect to my network. I have all the equipment
needed to set this up (like a wireless access point into my network)
yet I am unsure about how Virtual pc running windows xp pro will pick
up the airport wireless connection that mac has.
Thanks in advance for an replys .
Cheers
David
2.I want to connect my AirPort to an XP pro PC
The first part of this amy not seem to be an XP issue. However, I will get to
the point.
My problem is this, I am working at a University in China. I want to be able
to connect to the internet with my iBook (running OS x) and my wifes Toshiba
(running XP). At the present, I can only connect with the university
computer, in my appartment, that is running XP professional.
I brought my AirPort with me. However, even when I put in all of the IP
settings, I still can not connect to the Internet. I believe that this is due
to a authentication program that is running on the university supplied pc.
The PC is running a program called, "Ruijie Supplicant." I believe that this
program supplies password authentication to the server.
What I want to do is to leave the university computer connected to the LAN,
and add a second NIC to it. I then want to connect that NIC to the AirPort
(wireless router) and use the airport to connect my personal computers. Doing
this should send the traffic through the university PC that has authenticated
itself with the Ruijie Supplicant program, to the airport, to my laptop.
Will this work? I will want to use a different range on the second nic and
the wireless network so that it is not easly visible to the rest of the
campus, do I manually set the second NIC or let the DHCP from the router feed
in to it (the NIC connected to the campus is using a fixed IP)?
The reason for not just adding a wireless NIC to teh PC is that I can not
find a wireless NIC. I have asked and WiFi is legal here, it is just not very
common. Any other help would be appreciated.
3.Airport Express w/ iTunes - used with a Windows XP PC
Quick Summary of Problem: Airport Express Assistant cannot find the
Airport Express!
Hello and I hope everyone is having a nice Thanksgiving weekend.
I just today bought an Airport Express (AE) with the intention of
streaming all the songs in my laptop's iTunes over to a set of powered
speakers. I have no intention (yet) of sharing printers, nor do I want
to extend my range.
My set-up is as follows:
1) IBM ThinkPad T20
2) Linksys Wireless G Broadband Router
3) numbers 1 and 2 above talk to each other thru the Linksys
Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with Speedbooster that is plugged into the
PCMCIA slot of the laptop.
4) Set of powered speakers
So I plugged the AE into the wall (got a yellow blinking light) and
loaded up the setup CD it came with. I've progressed past the
agreements page and all the legal stuff. Then it looks like it tried
to install iTunes, but that failed because the version on the CD is
actually older than the one I already have installed. So I just
ignored it and clicked OK.
It then proceeded to continue the setup of AE Assistant when another
dialogue box popped up with a warning/error: Windows isn't allowed to
manage my wireless networks (the Linksys software is doing that job),
so it wants me to change that and let Windows drive. I said whatever
and tried to set it up anyway, and apparently it really did create
problems because the AE Assistant couldn't find the AE.
So I went back and allowed Windows to manage the wireless networks
then tried AE Assistant again, but the same thing happened: the AE
Assistant STILL doesn't see the AE, even if I keep Rescanning.
What's strange is that both the Linksys and Windows utilities CAN, in
fact, "see" the AE. It shows it right there just below the other
networks in my immediate surroundings. It's just the AE Assistant
itself that cannot find it.
Why is that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will call the folks at
1.800.MY.APPLE when they open up again tomorrow to get some help too.
And if I am able to fix this, I will post so that other people with
the same problem may benefit from reading this long-winded post.
Thanks for your time.

4.Airport, Mac's and XP PC?
Hi,
I'm struggling a little here and would appreciate some help :)
I was asked by a friend to try and hook his works XP laptop in to his
working wireless network.
(Please forgive my lack of knowledge of Apple hardware.)
At present he has 2 x iMac's, 1 x iMac laptop and a powerbook.
All have wireless devices in them and connect to a white coloured
Airport bridge.
This bridge is then plugged in to a Netgear ADSL modem/router.
The Mac's all work fine and seem to get a 10.0.1.x IP address from the
Airport.
However the PC will not communicate. At first it would not associate
with the Airport until we set the WEP key on it to something we knew,
I used a 40 bit key. I had to change the key/password on the Mac's
after that.
It now associates but does not pick up an IP address from the Airport.
So I tried to set the address manually to one in the same range as the
Airport was issuing but still nothing. I could not ping the Airport.
If we plug a cable in to the laptop and then in to the ADSL modem, it
picks a 192.168.0.x IP up from that and works ok.
I see one possible problem here, both the Airport and the modem are
trying to issue IP addresses.
It seems the Airport is getting an address from the adsl modem too.
Is it better to configure the Airport so that it only acts as a
wireless to ethernet bridge and let the netgear modem/router do all
the IP stuff?
Any help is very welcome!
Thanks
Mike
