Hi, It seems that Software Update on my mac has mysteriously stopped working. Running the actual application just gives a message that there aren't any updates available. I checked the log in System Preferences, and it seems that the latest update that I got was the daylight savings time update on March 6th. On a similar thread, whenever iTunes loads, it says that version 7.1.1 is available, and asks if I want to update. When I click yes, it sends me to Software Update which finds nothing. Any idea why this would be happening, and how I can fix it? Everything else on my computer seems to be running normally. I'm on an iMac G5 1.9GHz, running Mac OS 10.4.8. Thanks in advance, Martin.

Tiger quicktime 7 safari plugin

Postby Peter Kirkpatrick » Mon, 23 May 2005 02:31:49 GMT

Since I upgraded to Tiger (and then 10.4.1), every time I try to look
at a movie from Safari (e.g. movietrailers from the Apple website) I
get a message that says "Safari unable to load Quicktime7.0 plugin".
Just before I upgraded to Tiger I upgraded to quicktime pro. That key
code still shows in Quicktime 7. I saw one other message on a forum
with the same problem, and my daughter in law also has the problem. I
can'[t find any such plugin on Apple's website. Can anyone help?

First repair disk permissions.

A quick fix would be downloading Quicktime 7 from Apple site and
installing over. Then repair disk permissions.

As I said, quick fix. No guarantees.

Thanks for the prompt reply. part of the problem was that I couldn't
find a place on the Apple website to download Quicktime 7 for
Tiger--only for Panther. After looking at some posts elsewhere, I
looked at my plugins and discovered that I didn't have one that I
needed, as the error message suggested. You can't get them from Apple
either, but I had a functioning QT7 + Tiger on my laptop and was able
to get the plugins from there. I'm stilll not sure why they weren't
there on my G5 installation of Tiger, but once I installed the
<quicktime.plugin.plugin> file in ~/Library/Internet plug-ins
everything worked fine.

Thanks Ian for this very clear debriefing. (I lock this post :-)

Now in my case I don't know if it came from there, but today I got the
luck of being able to compare item per item all prefs between my machine
and an identical one that worked. In the end I found that within the
Quicktime prefs, last tab 'advanced', 'MIME types', 'others', my mac was
having 'flash media' checked and the other no. I unchecked. It now
works...

2.Quicktime plugin not working in safari while OK elsewhere

I don't understand why, but my OSX QT plugin doesn't work when used in
safari (2.04) while ot perfectly works when activated from within
Firefox or iCab.

I deleted safari prefs in vain. I see that Vienna, which uses safari
routines too when going html, has QT broken (the big blue 'Q' half fades
away after one second or so)

Any advice?

Thank you!
Herv

3.Quicktime Plugin / Safari Problem:

4.Safari or quicktime bug in Tiger

Greetings,

I've upgraded my Mac from 10.3.9 to Tiger and have found a bug in
Safari. I use AT&T Callvantage VOIP telephone service and used safari
to get my voice mail from the callvantage service. Since upgrading to
Tiger, whenever I select one of my voicemails, I only see the Quicktime
Q in the web page and the voice mail does not play. I have to use IE
5.2 to get my voice mail now, IE doesn't appear to use quicktime to play
the voicemail so I'm not sure if the problem lies with safari or quicktime.

Is there anyone else here using AT&T callvantage that is encountering
problems with fetching his voice mail with Safari?

thanks

5.IE 5.2.3 and QuickTime plugin

Hi,
after 10 days I'm posting this again, because I really don't know
where else to get help w/this particular issue ~ hopefully someone
might have some insight ~ thanks again

Using IE 5.2 and Mac OS10.2.8 / Emac > > >
somehow IE has reconfigured itself so that I get the error message
"there was an error loading the Quicktime plugin" > I've downloaded
and installed QT 6.5 several times and even downloaded and installed
IE again. I'm
sure my QT preferences are right . I am running Mozilla/Safari and
Opera as well on this machine and have no problems loading QT in those
browsers. I did notice that the the Quicktime plugins in the "Internet
Plugins" folder in my library are "Mozilla" type QT plugins.
I've tried copying those QT plugins into the plugins folder inside the
IE 5.5 package
(I confess to not understanding "packages" yet) and that didn't work.

I was able to play QT in IE no problem before this problem developed.
btw: IE 5.X has no problems in my Classic (9.2) environment.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
