Does ANYBODIE'S version of mepeg2 to QTwork correctly? ALL of the Codecs used by APPLE give "picture" artifacts like "streaking" and loss of resolution. Please, don't give me conversion loss as a reason- not so. Any ideas ? Ernie Lee

Any opinions on which is browser will take up the fewest resources on my 867MHz, 640MB Powerbook. I find Safari seems to grab lots of memory and CPU, even when it isn't doing anything. Firefox also seems to like lots of memory. So far, I find that Shiira takes up the least amount of resources, plus it seems plenty fast and robust. Any contrary opinions?

Since I installed the latest developer tools from apple (xcode_2.3_8m1780_oz693620813.dmg) I found a new process in the activity monitor which I don know: it is called "bfobserver" and runs as root. It starts a subprocess "python" (the python interpreter). Does anyone know what the bfobserver is doing and how I could deactivate it?
  • 4. FIREWALL- worth the effort ?
I often wonder if trying to prevent access through internet actually works. We hear of so called secure commercial sites being "busted", so why should we think that any firewall we use might is useful ? Personally, I only use internet intermitently and "pull the plug out" tthe rest of the time. When on internet, I use Activity Monitor to check undesirable net input, Thanks, Ernie Lee
  • 5. Turn off Confirmation
I know this must have asked and answered a hundred times, but I'll be darned if I can find any answers. I guess I'm not searching on the right strings/words. Is there some way to turn off confirmation questions when I empty the Trash or Junk mail? TIA... -- -=[cwa]=-

Front Row Trailer Resolution

Postby raggio » Tue, 07 Mar 2006 14:29:18 GMT

Hello all. Number one, the trailer service is working for me again. I
did not change anything on my system since the other day when I had
trouble. It just started working on its own again. I have a few
questions if youhave time:

1) What resolution are the movie trailers that are displayed in front
row? If I go to I have the option to select from abot 6

2) What is the highest resolution that I should be able to display on a
PPC mini? My mini is one with the silent upgrae ot 1.5 GHZ and 64 MB
of video ram.

3) Is there any way to download the trailers to my HD?

1.Front Row - Movie Trailer Server Not Responding

Hello all. I recently got the hack for Front Row to wrk on my 1.5 ppc
mini. It's pretty neat. I even got the second hack to work with the
most recent version. I now find that the moview trailer server does
not respond. I think this happened to me a few times with the previous
version as well. I have a pretty fast cable connection so I don' think
that is the problem.

Do any of you experience this? How about right now (Friday 9:30 p EST)?

Is this common with the macs that ship with Front Row or just those
that are running FR via the hack?

Also, has anyone tried the griffin airclick with a hacked install of FR?

2.Resolution of Front Row previews

What resolution are the movie previews displayed in? I noticed that
there 480, 720, and 1080 available via the web and was wondering which
of these front row uses? I have front row running on my 1.5 mini and
it works great so I assume that the videos are the 480 variety variety.
Is there any way to check? Also if I had a more powerful mac and
broadband I'd probably want to use higher res.

3.Front Row moves to Back Row to change or disable the Front Row shortcut using applescript

I have written apple script which opens the keyboard & mouse tab but
i didn't get any idea how to enable or disable "Hide and Show Front
row" check box using applescript.

[Apple Script]

tell application "System Preferences"
set the current pane to pane id ""
get the name of every anchor of pane id
	-->returns: {"Main", "Keyboard Shortcuts"}

reveal anchor "shortcutsTab" of pane id
--click "Hide and show Front Row"
        --keystroke "ESC" using command
end tell

[/Apple Script]
