  • 1. OS X - Xserver - OS Upgrade to 10.3
The college where I teach bought a new Xserver from Apple couple years ago. It has pretty much sat on a shelf until I talked the IT dept to give it to the Computer Networking dept for academic use. It had 10.2.? installed but it included the 2 install CD's for 10.3 Xserver... So we started the upgrade. Doing fine until it stopped and asked for a "product key" or CD key or something. Don't remember having to do this on my other iMacs or iBooks. Looking through the paper work and few manuals that came with it we only find a key for the 10.2 install. There is a chance that the 10.3 stuff night not have come from Apple but from a consultant we were using a couple of years ago. In any case, we have the original install CD's. Where do we get a key?? Thanks Tim
  • 2. Need Help - Mac to a PC Wireless Network
We have a linksys wireless router running 128 bit wep encryption. Our computers are pc's with win98 & xp - peer-to-peer lan. Someone came in with a "macalop" lol - it's a fairly new laptop running the most current browser & os. We got the 128 bit wep encryption key accepted, he can see the computers on the network, it's not giving any more "problem with network" errors, but he can't get on the internet. It says it can't find the servers for the web pages. In his network status it says "airport is connected to "elkgroup" blablabla" - indicating he should be able to use the net. What are we missing? Thanks.
  • 3. Anyone have Mac OS X Server _1.0.x_?
My memory had long faded on this, but it appears that I don't need Rhapsody per se, but Mac OS X Server 1.0.x -- the "real" OS that was out for about a year before OS X shipped. Anyone still have a copy? I know it's ancient... Maury

When I create a file, in the Finder icon view it appears in the upper left of the window, even if that overlaps existing icons. Is it just me, or is it 10.4.3 ?

I'm trying to build some X apps under snowleopard and the make fails to
find -lX11. I have installed Xcode tools and am using 6.1.

You mentioned installing XCode, but you didn't mention installing X11.
Although it can be confusing because of the X in XCode, the two have
little to do with each other. X11 is an optional install on the Snow
Leopard DVD. At least it used to be optional; I think it still is.

Any advice on getting my Powerpoint to run on Snowleapard 10.6.2? The spinning wheel just keeps spinning, restarts and reinstalls have done nothing to help the problem.

2.fonts and snowleopard

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

There have been more topics regarding this issue but I cannot find a solution for this feature. It could also be a bug in 10.6 or MS Office 2008..?
Did a complete reinstall of MS Office 2008. Somehow when I only place the Myriad Pro fontfamily in the users font folder. I can select the font within Word but the text selection completly disappears.
Did empty fontcaches, removed preferences and so without any luck.
Who has no problems with Office 2008 and the Myriad Pro font. I would like to hear!

3.Eudora & Snowleopard

Eudora 6.2.4 is working fine (so far) after several hours under
Snowleopard (OSX 10.6) -- EXCEPT that with the rewritten Finder, I
can't drag a message or group of messages off onto the desktop,
creating a new mailbox, which I use all the time to set aside threads
for later review or archiving. Haven't thought of a workaround yet --
creating a new mailbox and moving messages doesn't appeal to me. A
while back, of course, they broke the drag to mailbox function from
inside a message, but I could live with that.

4.migrating eudora 6.2.4 (Tiger) to new machine with SnowLeopard

I have a paid version of Eudora 6.2.4 currently running on a PPC
machine with Tiger 10.4.6. This weekend, I am going to migrate to a
new Intel mac with snow leopard. I am nervous about it going
correctly for Eudora as it is my primary application of communication.

Is there anything I should watch out for or do before/while I am using
the Migration Assistant?

Do you recommend a migration of the eurdora data and then re-
installation of a new version downloaded from the eudora site? [will I
b e able to "register" this with my current paid registration number].

Sorry for the newbie questions, but none of this was an issue with the
upgrade from OS9 to Tiger.

The Eudora site says that alert sounds didn't work in Leopard. Is
that true also for SnowLeopard?
