1.Map hostname to ethernet MAC address for wake-on-lan
Dear All, Wake-on-lan needs to know the target machine's ethernet address. I'd like to write a wrapper script around this so that I can wake a machine given its hostname. So I need to be able to get an ethernet MAC address given the hostname. Can anyone suggest how to do this? My dhcp server has a table (/etc/ethers) with this info, but I don't want to replicate this everywhere because of the need to keep it up to date. So I was wondering if there is some "nslookup"-like way of doing it. I think the answer is probably "no", but it's always worth asking isn't it? If you know of a better newsgroup, please let me know. Cheers, Phil.
2."Wake for Ethernet Network Administrator Access"? (how to use)
"Wake for Ethernet Network Administrator Access" Set by a box in the Energy Control preferences. (options tab) Anyone know how to get this to work? I tried it with an Ethernet Timbuktu network, but no success. Two Macs connected via Ethernet cable, everything works okay as long as both Macs stayed awake. Put one Mac to sleep, then can't rouse it from sleep from the other Mac, no matter what I do. It is necessary to send a "Wake on LAN" packet somehow, but can't find out how to do that, despite searching Google. Mark-
3.waking up a powerbook with ether-wake
I am trying to use a Linux system to send a wake-on-lan packet to a powerbook that's running MacOS 10.3.x. The command I am using is ether-wake -D -i eth0 00:30:65:F9:C1:62 So far, it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions? -akop
