  • 1. Hiding acct from login screen
Running iMac G5, OS X 10.0.4 Is there a way to hide a single account from the user login screen? My interest is just cosemetic. My family is four folks, each with an account; that's nice & neat onscreen. When I added a fifth account as admin to separate my work from sys maintenance, now there are five accounts, and a family member isn't visible without scrolling the login screen. I'd like to either have the admin account not appear, or have it be the "offscreen" account. Is there a way to get the login screen to reverse-sort? (Yes, scrolling is no big deal; but the family member who's forced to do it is only three.)

Displays anomaly

Postby Graley » Fri, 18 Apr 2008 09:37:51 GMT

I have a MacBook Pro, and a friend has a MacBook (not pro) both using
OS 10.5.2.

In the displays prefs I have many options for the resolutions. But my
friend has only four.

Why is this ? And how can she get all the res options I have ?

This reflects the fancier display driver that the Pro has. It supports
more resolution options. That's one of the reasons why the Pro is more
expensive than the not-Pro -- it has extra features like this.

I.e. you get what you pay for.

The MacBook does not have as good a video chip as the MacBook Pro. Check
out the specifications on Apple's web site.

She can purchase a MacBook Pro.

1.VPC display freezes on 2nd display upon shifting focus from primary display

Running OSX 10.3.9 on a dual 1.8Ghz G5, VPC 7.0.2. I have VPC in full
screen mode on my second display. After I work on the primary display,
especially if I do any text input, and then click on the VPC display,
the VPC display sometimes freezes even though the mouse pointer stays
active and the action the click initiated is actually occuring.
To get the display to update, I must click again in the
primary display before I can go back to working on the second display.
Sometimes at that point, when I click on the second display it freezes
again and I must click on the primary once more. This usually sets
things right, but it has been necessary on occasion to repeat this
process several times before I can work on the second display.

Primary is a NEC VGA 17" CRT running through the DVI port with an
adapter.

Secondary is a Viewsonic DVI 20.1" LCD through the ADC port with an
adapter.

VPC is the only application showing this behavior on the second
display.

Anyone else seen this? Any one know how to stop it? It's driving me
nuts when I'm switching back and forth from VPC and Mac applications.

Thanks,

2.oe 5.0.6 anomaly

My wife runs 5.0.6 on a G3 notebook with 9.1. I run it on an 8500 with 9.1.

When she gets some messages with attachments, these messages hang the
computer even freeze cursor - needs manual restart. However, these messages
are easily readable on the 8500 and when I forward them to her they are
readable.

The messages that cause trouble are almost always from one university and
one business. The university's messages go through a central server which
tinkers with the message. The person sending says they may abe requesting
confirmation of receipt. The commercial site, we have asked them to drop
her, and they have.

I've looked at all the preferences, tried dozens of options, but this
problem just won't go away. I've a feeling that it is just putting an x in
the right box, but I can't seem to find it.

Any help?

With thanks now for reading, more if I get a solution

3.Acrobat anomalies

Recently, I've developed two interesting problems with Explorer, and
both of them are Adobe Acrobat related. I'm running Explorer on OS
9.1. Each time I launch Explorer, it kicks out the CD currently in my
drive and asks me to insert Acrobat 5.0 disk. I don't have Acrobat
5.0. I have 4. I'm the only one who uses this computer, so I'm pretty
sure no one has tried to load 5 on the machine. The second problem
involves trying to open Acrobat files in the browser. It tells me that
I don't have the proper plug-in and opens another window to an
internet search engine. I've been using the 4.0 plug-in fine for
several years. I even double-checked in the "helper apps" section of
preferences to make sure the Acrobat Reader 4.0 plug-in was still set
up properly, and it is. What's going on?

4.BlackBerry Synch anomaly

Maybe not an anomaly but when I sync a berry to Entourage the transfer of
ENTmessages does not contain the FROM field. Obviously this is me but
is there anyway I can change something before sync so that it comes in
correctly and then I could run a rule for categorization?

Thanks for the help.....
