  • 1. Recovered database spawns "From" quotation marks
I was poking around cleaning files, defragging etc., and must have offended WLM Desktop because the next time I opened it, it informed me that my mail database was corrupted, however it managed to "recover" the database. After I finished moving all the messages into the folders where the belonged, I noticed that the sender names (From:) of the recovered messages now are encased in quotation marks. I peeked into the mail store file on my hard drive, and found no quotes, so I'm curious where these are and how I can get my mail lists to appear without them. Here's an example from the "From" (sender) line... BEFORE: Joe Smith < XXXX@XXXXX.COM > AFTER: "Joe Smith" < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >
  • 2. flag a message
I am new to live desktop and do not understand the 4 icons shown on the toolbar; namely a star, spectacles, paper clip and a cloud. In my last hotmail account I could flag a message to note that I should read it later but so far do not see how to do this in windows live mail desktop. The live help line does not seem to give me an answer. Can anyone tell me? Thank you

    This is a multi-part message in MIME format. Does Windows Live have the capability of drag and drop between newsgroups? bluvd48 <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META http-equiv=Content-Type content=text/html;charset=iso-8859-1> <META content="MSHTML 6.00.6000.16643" name=GENERATOR></HEAD> <BODY id=MailContainerBody style="PADDING-RIGHT: 10px; PADDING-LEFT: 10px; PADDING-TOP: 15px" bgColor=#ffffff leftMargin=0 topMargin=0 CanvasTabStop="true" name="Compose message area"> <DIV><FONT face="Arial Unicode MS" size=4>Does Windows Live have the capability of drag and drop between newsgroups?</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Arial Unicode MS" size=4></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face="Arial Unicode MS" size=4>bluvd48</FONT></DIV></BODY></HTML>
  • 4. Delete message, then go to Inbox list
When I have a list of new unread messages in my Inbox, I open the first one on the list. After I read that message, I click the "delete" option. When I do this the message (#1) is deleted, and the next message (#2) on the e-mail list is opened up. I do not want the next e-mail message (#2) to open up. Instead, after I delete message #1, I just want to go to my Inbox list of messages so I can choose which one of my other e-mail messages I want to open. How can I set up my system to do this?

Backup from Win XP to Win 7 ?

Postby Phil » Mon, 31 Aug 2009 06:11:27 GMT

Hello!

Is there a way to backup all accounts, mails and contacts from WLM on a XP
machine to WLM on Win 7 machine, without downloading all mails again?
The accounts inlude POP, IMAP and Hotmail accounts.

In Outlook Express there was a Pop3uidl.dbx file for POP accounts, which
prevented OE to download old mails again. I could simply copy the mail
folder with the Pop3uidl.dbx.

Thanks in advance!

Have you looked at this free third party utility:

 http://www.**--****.com/ #swmbf

I used it successfully to migrate all WLM accounts, messages, and
settings from a Vista machine to a Windows 7 machine.

WLM doesn't have a Pop3uidl.dbx file.

It can also be done from within WLM
1. Export Messages(File/Export/Messages) - requires a blank folder(e.g. create one a jump drive or external drive)
2. Export accounts(Tools/Accounts/<select account>/Export - repeat for each mail and news account
3. Export Contacts(Open Contacts, File/Export/choose CSV file)
    - fyi..not necessary for a Live ID Hotmail account using Http)

I tried the manual with several different ways but each time all the mails
still get redownloaded.
I'll try the software solution later.

Thanks

But that way one would still loose settings and certificates, right?

I successfully backed up and restored my mails!
I simply copied the 'Mail.MSMessageStore' file and all the folders with
mails to the accounts I wanted to backup.
The problem with the software solutions is that you can only backup all
mails.

Each installation on a different pc requires one to configure any unique user chosen settings.
With respect to #2 Export Accounts...an export to iaf retains/restores that accounts settings(e.g. name, server[s], username, email
address, password, etc)
