max line length in .cf

What is the max. line length that's allowed in
sendmail.cf ?

I presume you are trying to hard code an evry long, but informative error 
message?

I worked it out for my self a while ago, but have now forgotten. Just put a 
long error in, and count how many characters get returned. Ugly, but simple. 
Of course you must never edit the .cf directly, so you will need to edit 
your .mc and regenerate the .cf again.

According to a copy of a recent sendmail/readcf.c MAXLINE
is set at 2048 (actually set from sendmail/conf.h).
