Hello, I am about to finish a master's program in CS. But, I recognize that having a Microsoft Development Certification would go a long way towards starting a career in software development. I have visited the Microsoft site but it's not as clear as it really should be. I have two questions/concerns. 1. Are the MCAD exams listed, and the certification itself, going to be outdated soon? Are there any rumors of certification obsolescence? 2. What other certifications would be advantageous to obtain? I am interested primarily in Windows application development. Sincerely Raiden28

Hi, i'm going to start preparing for the exams for MCAD. I'm going to order the book "MCAD/MCSD Visual Basic .Net Certification All-in-one Exam guide" from Larry Chambers and Richard Fowler. Does anyone know if this is a good book to get prepared for the exams ? I've been working for 4 years as a VB6-developer and now 1,5 years as VB.Net-developer. Thanks in advance

Probably VB is more popular (because of it's vague ancestral
links with VB6.0 et al) but C# is the cleaner language.

However, it's really just an issue of Syntax. If you can pass
MCAD C# you can probably pass MCAD VB or vice-versa.

if you get started with .NET from scratch, you want to go for C#,
which is a very powerful language similar to Java and ready for the
future; VB.NET is better for those who are used working in VB6 and who
want an easier transition to .NET
