  • 1. Any one else using this book?
"MCAD/MCSD Visual Basic .NET Certification" by Chambers, Fowler, Linde and Sequiera, from Osborne. Part of the "All-in-one" series, covers 305, 306, 310. Been using this the last few weeks and curious about other's opinions on its overall worth. It seemed a good value, covering all three tests. My aim in pursuing certs is not just to get the certs, but to get some experience with the .NET technology in a structured way, since I don't have a job that uses it. It seems a good, if somewhat perfunctory, intro to VB.NET and ASP.NET... can't say for sure about the XML and web services etc. I've been concentrating on desktop to begin with... have read all the rest, but don't know enough about the subjects to know if they're being covered adequately. The included MasterExam practice tests seem of dubious value. Only 56 available questions for 306 says to me that you're going to get every question, every time you do it. I see no value in memorizing answers to practice questions, and if every time you get the same questions, you're going to end up memorizing them whether you want to or not. Also, according to the 306 practice exam, I'm ready. But surely don't feel like I have sufficiently worthwhile knowledge of the material to warrant that. Unlike when I was doing VB6 certs a few years ago. Suggesting that the MasterExam, at least, is simple-minded. Is that true of the entire book? rabbit

  • 3. How long will my MCAD certtifcation be "valid"
I have kind of a newbie question about the MCAD certification(or any other MS cert for that matter)... That question is, if I get my MCAD.Net cert in the near future, how long is it valid for? Do you have to keep getting re-certified every so often in order to claim (i.e. list on a resume) that you hold an MCAD? My situation is that I currently hold a a fairly stable development job, but just wanting to add credentials in case I ever wanted to move on, or go for a higher salary...is the MCAD worth my time?

Greetings,

I am writing exam 70-315 in 10 days. I finished studying
the MS Press for 70-315 (part of the core kit). As a
review, I am debating between 1 of 3 options (can only do
one because of 1 week of study time left):
1-	Study the Exam cram 2 by Amit Kalani (about 400
pages vs 1200 of full book)
2-	Go through MSDN using the codeclinc.com outline
for 70-315.
3-	Review the MS Press Book again (bad choice I think)

Any suggestion/ advice will be appreciated. (any one had
to make similar choice? Time it took to go through exam
cram or MSDN?)

4) Use Transcender or MeasureUp sample tests.

I say exam simulation software is too expensive.. go
through kalani's exam cram2, it is better than MSDN even,
for last minute exam preparation.

kevin,

Best bet will be transcender or Testking. Revise Kalani's book !!!! I took the exam and found
Testking questions more close to the exam.

How much did you learn from TestKing?

Kalani's step-by-step examples in his training guides are great!
