  • 1. Charting Statistical Distributions in Excel 2008
I've been able to chart in Excel 2008 for a Normal Curve using the NORMDIST function and other calculated cells. It is a thing of beauty. I'd also like to draw continuous data charts with negative and positive skews, F Distributions, t Distributions, and Chi-Square Distribution. Does anyone know how I might do this things. I've search online and haven't not found what I need. Thanks, Ed

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) I know there's a formatting cleaner for PC's, but I can't find it for macs. Does it exist?
  • 3. Lost another hour of work
Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Intel Old habits die hard. I keep forgetting that I can't right-click in Excel or Word 2008 on Mac, or THE WHOLE APPLICATION CRASHES. I've been reporting this for, oh, I don't know, 6 months? I've emailed the error stack a bunch of times. Is this something that you are actually going to fix, or is the answer "it's something in your user account" the only one available? Because even if something is my user account, shouldn't the Office suite, which I've been buying the professional version of religiously for about 100 YEARS be able to handle it and not crash and lose my work?
  • 4. Database Error in Excel
Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I have a database of names (lets say 50). When I want to send out a form letter in Word and use a portion of these names (lets say 10) by deleting those I don't want from the original document or cutting and pasting those I do want into a new document. I then do a print merge (form letter) in Word and it will print all 50 documents when I only wanted 10. When I look at my data record (excel spreadsheet) it shows an asterisk in row 11 (instead of the number 11) and a highlighted border around all entries on that page. What is going on here? I only want the 10 entries not 50.
  • 5. Standard Toolbar has Disappeared in Excel
Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi, I know this question has been posted before however I can't seem to get any of the previous answers to work for me. I'm a relatively new mac user and am experiencing a problem with my Excel. Every time I open a new sheet the standard toolbar is "missing" when i go to the tool bar options it is however checked, i have to uncheck it and then re check it to get it to appear again . In the customize toolbar menu the standard tool bar is ticked in dock but is shaded out and I cannot change this. I have tried resetting it but that does now work either. I was using Excel for at least 6 months before this problem occurred. Would be very grateful for any help ! Thanks !!

Smart button won't go away

Postby Slipface » Wed, 14 Nov 2007 10:17:01 GMT

Gang,
As I'm pasting some copied text into various cells in a spreadsheet
(basic cmd-V), the Smart Button won't go away and it's obscuring text
in the cells that it's sitting atop of. I can't get it to go
away--pressing escape, selecting one of the options in the smart button
menu, scrolling off screen then back...

Any thoughts? I'm using Excel 11.3.5 (current as far as I know) and OS
10.4.10.

TIA,
_d

Oh my, that's a persistent little {*filter*}! What I found was that if you
hit escape while the marching ants (marquee) are still active (you see
them around the copied cells immediately after 'copy'), poof! the dumb
smart button disappears. But woe to you if you do something (anything)
that stops the ants. Well, if you go to a blank cell and just type
something, SB goes away. Better yet, do a save (never a bad idea).
btw, after the marching ants retreat, pasting will paste only the
contents of the source cell - no formats, no formulas. So you could
regard a persisting SB as a warning that you might be missing
something.

You also have the option of going to Excel> Preferences> Edit & clearing the
check for Show Paste Options Buttons... FWIW, I personally prefer to
Right-Click & use Paste Special if I want something other than a straight
paste, anyway.

Thanks, folks. I did see the preference option...I do make modest use
of the smart buttons (when dragging the corner of a cell to copy it,
and change the copied cells to a series, for example), but could
probably work around it just as well. Maybe I'll play around with the
settings and see which way bugs me least :)

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

Now *that* is interesting, and could very well explain another source
of occasional frustration. Sometimes I wonder why pasting includes
formats and sometimes it doesn't...

Although I am much more frustrated with pasting and formatting in Word,
where it seems to have a mind of its own sometimes ;-)

thanks,

2.Excel.EXE won't GO away

I've been using excel within VB.NET applications and I can't get it to close down and remove itself from memory.

I'm using Visual Studio 2003 ver 7.1.3088, Framework 1.1, MS Office 2003 with MS VS Tools for MS Office System 69586-3

After closing all workbooks etc and setting them to nothing, I run the following code to get rid of the Excel Application object

If Not (xlApp Is Nothing) Then
		xlApp.Quit()
		xlApp = Nothing
		GC.Collect()
	End If

This does set the application object to nothing in the locals panel but the Excel.EXE process is still running in the Task Manager.

Thanks for your help.

4.Help! Draft Watermark Won't Go Away

Hi,

I've got a 2003 XP Excel file with a Draft watermark on it - it is not in
header, it is not background, it does not appear to be word art - but if it
is word art how would I select it to delete it?

I cannot get rid of the mark and I'm going crazy! I'm going to have to copy
and paste and redo 12 sheets.

TIA!

5.Macro won't go away!

I've deleted a macro from a workbook that didn't work correctly. It's the
only macro in the workbook. And I know it's gone because the macro list is
now empty. But whenever I open the file, I'm still confronted with the
message box that asks me whether I want to disable or enable the macros.
Can anyone tell me how to make this message go away?

thanks much
Arsenio
