  • 5. Location of pivot chart
I am using Excel 2003. I want to create a pivot chart from a pivot table. As soon as I click the chart button, however, Excel immediately creates the chart in a sheet of its own. I want to be able to create that chart in an existing sheet. I can't see an easy way to do this, other than then moving the one that's been created on its own chart sheet. Surely there must be a way to bi-pass that step?

Date formatting in Pivot Chart

Postby SmVzc2ljYU1j » Fri, 10 Feb 2006 07:22:27 GMT

Hi,

I'm trying to create a pivot chart and the date field is not formatting
properly - the format comes out different from that of the pivot table. How
can I fix this? Format axis doesn't give me an option for date format.

In the pivot table, right-click the date field button, and choose Field
Settings.
Click the Number button, and select a date format
Click OK twice
The chart should show the selected format.

If some of the cells in that field contain text, or are blank, the
Number button won't appear. The information here may help:

1.Pivot Table border formatting and pivot chart formatting

I've haven't been able to eliminate the border formatting in a pivot
table. Every time I change the page selection it defaults back to
having borders. Does anyone know how to correct this?

I've also been having the same problem with pivot charts. When I
increase the width of a line in a chart and change the page selection
it defaults back to the previous format.

2.Error in date format of first Pivot table chart

Excel 2007:
I have created a workbook with several Pivot tables and corresponding charts
showing trend in various areas of data.

Problem: Even though the date format is "linked to source" and the source is
set for "dd-mm-yyyy tt:mm" (or "dd-mm-氓氓氓氓 tt:mm" in Danish) it still
displays as "mm-dd-yyyy" on the first pivot chart until refreshed with Alt-F5.
The other pivot charts displays date/time as wanted after an update of the
underlying data. All pivot tables and pivot charts are in individual
worksheets.

Removing "linked to source" and setting the date/time format manually
doesn't help on the first pivot chart. Still displays in US-format after a
data update until chart refreshed manually with Alt-F5.

Trying to automate the complete update with macro won't run like Alt-F5.
    ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("Chart 1").Activate gives:
(The item with the specified name doesn't exist)

eventhough the macro code was recorded to be like shown.

I believe the above is an error in the Excel Pivot table functionallity.

3.date format wrong on pivot chart

In the raw data and the pivot table the date is in format Mar-01 but in the
pivot chart it shows up 3/14/2001 format.

Why is the chart not using the same date format as the data?

4.Formatting pivot chart axis labels for dates

If I have a pivot chart with dates on the x-axis, I am unable to "number"
format the axis. My source data has dates formatted to "Mar-09", but the axis
shows "3/1/2009". If I format the dates in the pivot table they look fine,
but the chart still shows "3/1/2009". I believe with 2003 I could format the
dates in the table and they would be reflected in the charts. If I use format
axis on a pivot table axis it has no affect at all.

This seems like a glaring hole for producing business charts so I must be
missing something new.

5.Date formatting on a Pivot Chart's Data Table

I have a Pivot Chart that has a text field for series, a date field for
category and a number field for data items.

In the charting options, I've hidden the legend and shown the data
table.

When the data table appears in the chart, it shows the dates in the
format:
"M-d-yyyy hh:mm"

I'd like it to show in the format:
"MMM-yy"

I can't find any options inside the Pivot Chart context menus or
toolbar for applying date formatting on the Data Table.

I've tried formatting cells in the Pivot Table and it applies them
there, but still shows in the format listed above when I go to the
chart.

Can anyone explain how to format the Dates showing on the Data Table
portion of the Chart?

Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance,
  Jeff
