  • 3. what type of chart?
    Hello, I'm having a hard time finding the right chart in excel to use. I need one that is essentially a line chart - but that also charts unique events events a long the way (time), showing how those unique events (I was hoping to list the words vertically on this one in different colors) affect the line or lines flowing along the items. Sort of like an event-driven line chart for stocks on the Google stock quotes/graphs. So X - time, Y, a decimal variable from 1-10. But with unique variable (names that appear along the time axis). I've never charted in Excel before so any help would be appreciated as to how to pick a chart like this. thank you

  • 5. Opening a file
    Hi guys, I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with what I think is a relatively simple procedure. I am creating a process that requires the user to open a file (I'm not sure where it will be saved), and then the code will simply copy some data out of this selected file into the template document. I currently have: Public Sub ImportData() Dim curfolder As String Dim filename As String Sheets("Sheet1").Select Range("A1:ED1000").Select Selection.ClearContents Application.GetOpenFilename filename = Dir(curfolder) Workbooks.Open filename Range("A1:ED1000").Select Selection.Copy However, when I reach the select file dialog box and select the necessary file, the file I want isn't actually selected, but the first file in that folder. Can someone help me with this predicament please? Thanks

How does one use Excel 2007 to plot a line and a bar graph with two axes -
the same chhart offered in Excel 2003 under Custom Types?

You have to build the combination chart yourself.
Create a column chart based on both data sets. Select the column you want as
a line and use Change Chart Type to set it to line chart.

1.Plot multiple lines against two Y axes

I am using OWC11 and VB.NET to plot two lines against the left Y axis,
then adding a right axis with a different scale and plotting two
columns. This works fine.

On a button click from the user, I would like to add a similar set of
data series to the same chart - i.e. two more lines scaled against the
left Y axis, and two more columns scaled against the right axis, on top
of the first columns. The problem is that I cannot seem to plot the
second set of columns on top of the first. Attached is a code extract.

Dim SeriesIndex1 As Integer
Dim SeriesIndex2 As Integer
Dim s As OWC11.ChSeries

chtModel.Charts(0).Type =
chtModel.Charts(0).SetData(OWC11.ChartDimensionsEnum.chDimCategories, _
    OWC11.ChartSpecialDataSourcesEnum.chDataLiteral, "1, 2, 3, 4")

'First time around
s = chtModel.Charts(0).SeriesCollection.Add
s.SetData(OWC11.ChartDimensionsEnum.chDimValues, _
    OWC11.ChartSpecialDataSourcesEnum.chDataLiteral, "130, 330, 530,
s.Type = OWC11.ChartChartTypeEnum.chChartTypeLine
s.Line.Color = "Red"
SeriesIndex1 = s.Index

s = chtModel.Charts(0).SeriesCollection.Add
s.SetData(OWC11.ChartDimensionsEnum.chDimValues, _
    OWC11.ChartSpecialDataSourcesEnum.chDataLiteral, "550, 550, 550,
s.Type = OWC11.ChartChartTypeEnum.chChartTypeLine
s.Line.Color = "Blue"

s = chtModel.Charts(0).SeriesCollection.Add
s.SetData(OWC11.ChartDimensionsEnum.chDimValues, _
    OWC11.ChartSpecialDataSourcesEnum.chDataLiteral, "42, 44, 46, 48")
s.Interior.Color = "Cyan"
SeriesIndex2 = s.Index
Dim RAxis As OWC11.ChAxis = chtModel.Charts(0).Axes.Add( _
RAxis.Scaling.Minimum = 0
RAxis.Scaling.Maximum = 100
RAxis.Position = OWC11.ChartAxisPositionEnum.chAxisPositionRight

s = chtModel.Charts(0).SeriesCollection.Add
s.SetData(OWC11.ChartDimensionsEnum.chDimValues, _
    OWC11.ChartSpecialDataSourcesEnum.chDataLiteral, "52, 54, 56, 58")
s.Interior.Color = "YellowGreen"

'Second time around
s = chtModel.Charts(0).SeriesCollection.Add
s.SetData(OWC11.ChartDimensionsEnum.chDimValues, _
    OWC11.ChartSpecialDataSourcesEnum.chDataLiteral, "100, 300, 500,
s.Type = OWC11.ChartChartTypeEnum.chChartTypeLine
s.Line.Color = "Tomato"

s = chtModel.Charts(0).SeriesCollection.Add
s.SetData(OWC11.ChartDimensionsEnum.chDimValues, _
    OWC11.ChartSpecialDataSourcesEnum.chDataLiteral, "650, 650, 650,
s.Type = OWC11.ChartChartTypeEnum.chChartTypeLine
s.Line.Color = "SteelBlue"

'Plot these column against the right axis, on top of previous columns
s = chtModel.Charts(0).SeriesCollection.Add
s.SetData(OWC11.ChartDimensionsEnum.chDimValues, _
    OWC11.ChartSpecialDataSourcesEnum.chDataLiteral, "62, 64, 66, 68")
s.Interior.Color = "DarkCyan"

s = chtModel.Charts(0).SeriesCollection.Add
s.SetData(OWC11.ChartDimensionsEnum.chDimValues, _
    OWC11.ChartSpecialDataSourcesEnum.chDataLiteral, "32, 34, 36, 38")
s.Interior.Color = "GreenYellow"

2.One Column on 1st y-axis and 3 lines on 2nd y-axis

On Excel 2003 I am using the custom chart "Line-Column on 2 Axes". I would
like one column (series 1) for the first y-axis and 3 lines (series 2-4) for
the 2nd y axis. It seems that when adding series, that 2 columns are
automatically created when you exceed 2 series. Every seried added after the
second series results in lines for the 2nd y axis. If I delete one of the
first 2 series (columns) then the next series which is a line is
automatically converted to a column. My desired end result is to have only
one column on the 1st y axis and the 3 lines on the 2nd y axis. Can someone
help with this? I hope I have explained it sufficiently.

3.need to plot more than one x-axis in line chart with OWC11 using A

i need to plot a graph which has 2 lines together.
i would want to place an extra x-axis (categories) for the 2nd line to be
they are both using the same set of string but i want them to be sorted....
i managed to get 2nd axis displayed but it only shows the same data as the
how do i plot two x-axis with different sets of data?

4.Reversing X axis flips Primary Y axis plot but not Secondary Y axis plot

In Excel 2007, I have three columns of values. When I create a scatter chart
with these three columns, the first is the X axis data and I can show a Primary
Y axis for the second column data and a Secondary Y axis for the third column
data. But when I click on "Values in reverse order" on the X axis, only the
primary Y axis data plot is flipped, not the secondary axis data. Please test
this yourself and see what I mean. I can find no way to fix this problem.
Please let me know if you have a solution.

5.Trying to Plot two lines on one graph

Help! I have two data sets and want to plot them both on
one graph for comparison. Problem I am facing is the x-
axis data points don't seem to decipher between the two
For instance, my 2 data sets are:
Line1  Line2
X Y    X    Y
1 4    1.5  7
2 7    2    6
3 9    3    8
4 2    4.2  0
5 7    5.1  1

But after plotting, Excel can only display the Line 1 x
values. Therefore Line 2 is not represented correctly.
Anyone have any suggestions?
