Value (Y) axis crosses between categories and Secondary Value (Y) Axis

This is just to acknowledge Jon Peltier's reply to my question. My newsgroup server went down just after the posting, a "temporary fix" was less than adequate and my ISP did not bother to tell me that it had another real server available (I intend to fire them when I decide on an acceptable alternative!) There were also complications involved with installation of SP2. Anyway, thanks again Jon, I am working on your suggestion of VBA and detecting a mouse click. -- James V. • 2. chart with second y axis
I am trying to make a two y axis chart. The primary y axis is a stacked bar graph. I would like the 2nd y axis to be a line chart. 1. How can this be done so that the line graph appears in the same chart as the bar graph? 2. How can this be done if the bar graph is 3d? TIA -- Peter

I have Microsoft Excel 2003 and it appears that it is not possible to create a boxplot. Is there some function in excel that I am just overlooking or is it not possible to create a boxplot using excel?

I dynamically cahange the amount of data on a chart. This causes the X axis Scale to either to either show too few values or too many values ( a solid black line if too many). I would like amethod to dynamically change to scale values in relation to the data span.
  • 5. Charting Ranges
I have some ranges I want to chart - There are only six values - They consist low ranges high ranges. The raw data is as follows: Room Temperature 1: Low Range: 32 High Range: 256 Room Temperature 2: Low Range: 2 High Range: 64 Room Temperature 3: Low Range: 0 High Range: 2 How can I chart this on one chart - I want the scale to be from 0 - 256 and just have 3 bars to show the different ranges. Every time I try to chart it using different charts, the lower values don't show much of a bar because the Room temperature 1 range is so high. How would I arrange this data? What chart should I use? Thank you

Value (Y) axis crosses between categories and Secondary Value (Y) Axis

Postby -markc » Sun, 28 Oct 2007 07:30:37 GMT

Hi all -

I have 7 series on my chart
Series 1 is column chart - may be area chart eventually (2007 data)
Series 2 is column chart 2008 data
Series 3 is column chart 2007 avg
Series 4 is a column chart 2008 avg
Series 5 is a line chart (32,0 benchmark)
Series 6 is a line chart (points to column chart for 2007 avg, I then
add text to right to explain the column)
Series 7 is a line chart (points to column chart for 2008 avg, I then
add text to right to explain the column)

I would like the column charts for 2007 and 2008 data to be flush to
the origin (12 data points each year)
I would like the benchmark line chart of 32 to span the chart area
from left to right (16 data points)

mark from Value (Y) axis crosses between categories when formatting
the x axis.

However, when I do that, the data point for 2007 closest to the origin
appears cut-off on left side of column

I more or less posted this information on Ozgrid a few days ago
(Ozgrid is now down until Nov. 13 according to the site). Andy Pope
replied that if I move the line charts to the Secondary Value (Y)
Axis, that would resolve the problem.

I must be doing something wrong. I did assign the line chart to
Secondary Value (Y) Axis and then cleared the tick mark on the x axis:
Value (Y) axis crosses between categories. However whatever datapoint
is closest to the Primary Y Axis disappears entirely

What am I doing wrong here?

To draw a line on a chart, use a technique like this:

Similar Threads:

1.Need PivotChart x axis to cross Y axis at minimum Y axis value

I see an option to have x cross y at max y, but how can I say min y?

2.chart secondary axis crossing with x axis

I have a series of VBA generated plots with dual axes.
The data charted is best represented with a logprimary axis scale and a
log secondary axis scale.

For most datasets this is fine, and has the left/primary axis marker
'1' aligned horizontally with the right/secondary axis marker '0'; all
correct and how I want it it.

However, when an original value is less than 1, the primary log axis
responds appropriately by adding another log unit ('0.1') to
accommodate the data. The problem the plot then has is that this new
minimum on the primary log scale is aligned horizontally with the
right/secondary axis marker '0', which is not correct at all.

How can I code that the minimum axis value on the secondary axis (which
is invariably zero) will always align horizontally with the value 1 on
the primary log axis, regardless of how many log units this primary
axis requires?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Matthew

3.Setting "Value (Y) axis crosses between categories"

Hello,

I am trying to find out how to duplicate a specific
property in a Web based OWC chart generator that you can
set in an Excel chart.

-If you create a line chart in excel
-Then Select the X Axis
-Then from "Format" (or right click) select "Format
(Selected) Axis"
-Go to the Scale Tab of the "Format Axis" Dialog
-Then There is a checkbox that is labled "Value (Y) axis
crosses between categories"

If the "Value (Y) axis crosses between categories" box is
checked the first and last series do not sit on the
borders of the chartspace but instead are padded to the
center of each category.

In Excel the
property "Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Axis.AxisBetweenC
ategories" can be set to "true" or "false", but this
property does not exist
in "Microsoft.Office.Interop.OWC.ChAxis".

I have tried working with the "Crosses" property of
the "chAxis" object ("Crosses" Set
to "chAxisCrossesCustom" and then setting
the "CrossingAxis" and "CrossingAtValue" property) but
this seemed ot have no effect other than moving the Y-
axis from left to right across the chart.

Does anyone have any insight to this? Is there something
in the series instead?

Thanks

4.Secondary y-axis for certain x-axis categories (not by series)

Hi:

I have the data set up similar to this:

              Group 1 Group 2 Group 3
A 1 1.5 0.8
B 5 3.2 2.5
C 4 6.7 4
D $35 $20 $56
E $42 $36 $29

I want to put all three series into one bar chart with categories A, B, C,
D, E across the x-axis. I want to have 2 y-axes, one for categories A, B, C
and one for categories D & E. However, when I use the "Secondary Axis"
option, it seems to only allow me to choose a series (Group 1, Group 2, or
Group 3) for the secondary axis. Is there a method to use the Secondary Axis
feature wtih x-axis categories (and not with a data series)?

Thank you!

5.Using a cell reference as the axis value for Horizontal axis crosses

Is there any way of referencing a cell as the value in the "axis
value" area of the "Format Axis dialog box. I am currently entering a
number i.e. 2.5. I would like to be able to have this number change
when a user enterer a value in a cell? Would it have to be VBA code
or is there another way?

6. Can't get the x-axis to cross at value 0 for both y-axes

7. X-axis to cross Y-axis at avrg Y-value

8. Change Value axis to category axis
