  • 1. Format Cells Does Nothing
I have an Excel 2000 worksheet that a user created by typing data into it. Visually, it has two columns that contain integers such as 100, 250, 500, 700, etc. When I highlight the cells, Excel usually provides a sum in the lower right hand status bar - however, in this case it displays nothing. I also do a sum function on this column and Excel returns a value of zero even though the values add up to 15750. Visually, I can see this columns are left-justified and have no decimals which is not typical for standard Excel number formatting. So, I highlight the cells or I hightlight the whole column and choose format cells and format them as a number with two decimal places. However, it does nothing to cells - they remain left-justified with no dec places and the highlighting or sum functions do nothing. I also tried entering a calculation such as A2+A3+A4 where A2=100, A3=150, and A4 = 300 - Excel returns ZERO. I've tried several other calcs as tests, I have tried changing the cells to format of currency, date, text then back to number, general, etc - but nothing has any impact. If I format the cells as numbers and then re-hand type in each value to the cell, then everything works fine. However, I obviously do not want to hand re-type all these values in. Anyone with any ideas what is going on and how I can correct it? I have this issue on a few spreadsheets but certainly not all spreadsheets. thanks

I am trying to figure out how to sort a pivot table by putting criteria in for multiple columns but using "or" logic instead of "and" logic. In other words, if the criteria in any of the columns is true, then display the corresponding record. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Pasting from xl into word as an enhanced metafile

Postby TEI » Wed, 25 Apr 2007 02:12:01 GMT

Hi,
When I copy a range in excel 2003 that contains pictures and paste that into
word as an enhanced metafile the pictures stretch by about 5%. This makes
photos of peoples heads look elongated and a bit odd.

Note that this doesn't happen when I select the object individually.

Does anyone know how to stop this stretching?

Thanks
Larn

1.Font colours disappear when pasting to Powerpoint as Metafile/Enhanced metafile

When using copy/paste special to take a range from Excel 2002 to Powerpoint
2002 all is fine on my PCs - i.e. all formats are kept as expected.

However, my client has 2 of his own machines and 2 of his clients that lose
the font colour only - all text is black (background colours etc are fine).
Colour is retained in HTML and Bitmap formats but not Metafile or Enahnced
Metafile.

Anyone else had this problem? If so, any solutions please.

2.Paste Special: Metafile vs Enhanced Metafile

What's the difference between Picture (Windows Metafile) and Picture
(Enhanced Metafile) in the Paste Special options? Is there a good rule as to
when to use one over the other?

At a quick look for pasting Excel sheets, they seem the same, but I'd guess
that's just because Excel sheets don't have any fancy graphics, gradients,
etc. But that's just my guess. Perhaps Windows Metafile is fine for basic
shapes and Enhanced Metafile is better for advanced vector images?

Thanks,

3.Editing a Table Pasted from Excel into Word as a Picture (Enhanced Metafile)

Hi:

I am copying a section of an Excel Spreadsheet, and then pasting into
word using Paste Special -> Picture (Enhanced Metafile)

When I right click on the object in word, one of the menu choices is
"Edit Picture" This will allow me to change text in the picture, which
seems to be included through the use of text boxes. I make a minor
change that is required, but then I cannot seem to revert the image or
picture back to its previous form, which seems to be as a normal
picture file that has been inserted. The only way I can figure out
how to do this is by using the undo command, but I loose my text
chance. If the picture stays in the new, editable format, whenever I
click into it, all of the text is becomes highlighted, which really
slows down my ability to continue work on the rest of the document.
The new format seems to be seen by word as a Drawing Canvas.

Does anyone know how I can make a text change, and then get Word to
see the image as an inserted picture file again as opposed to this
drawing canvas?

Thanks,
Brooks

4.Pasting Excel Graphs (charts/enhanced metafile pictures) into Word

I am looking for a similar solution posted by Donahue,
8/20/04, 7:07 am.

I have pasted excel charts and enhanced metafile pictures
in a word document, sent this to a colleague who has Word
2001 for the Mac, and she is unable to view these files.
She sees a big (red?) X.

Size/memory is not an issue here.

Any help here?

5.Paste Special , Paste link as Picture (enhanced metafile)

Hallo,

One of my colleague wants to paste excel table in word.

He select the cell and use paste special in Word , paste link and would like
to paste as Picture(Enhanced Metafile).

But Picture(Enhanced Metafile option is missing in word. He only gets
Graphic (windows metafile)

We are using Office 2003. He told this option was avalaible in Office XP 2002.

Any idea, how to get this option in Word 2003?

Regards,
Atul
