  • 1. Flex 3 Project Set Up
    I'm trying to create a new flex project in Flex Builder 3, and I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for to make this work. File | New Flex Project - looks the same Project name: works... Location: path to files I've set up...OK Server Technology: ColdFusion, using Remote Object access thru CF Flash Remoting (we don't have livecycle). So far, it's quite easy... But...what do I put in for the server location? We have the CF8 server set up so that I access the files through a mapped drive. I am mapped to an instance we created for Flex applications (which I had no problem building apps on in FB2). Example: \\cf8\flexwwwroot is mapped to P:\, and in here, I see all the sandboxes I had from my FB2 apps. In there is the WEB-INF\flex directory. The only thing I have in my flex directory is a services-config.xml file (I don't have a flex-config.xml file). This was never a problem before, and when creating a project in FB 3, it says the "WEB-INF/flex folder must contain either a flex-config.xml or services-config.xml", which it does. Since I can't get past this page in the set up, I don't know if I will encounter any problems with setting up a project. Any help on how to set this up properly?? Thanks! Jenn
  • 2. Another Tree question
    I tried with styles but there is only the "color" one, and that one changes the whole text in a Tree, i just need to change some particular nodes, the ones which can be expanded (the ones with the folder). I did a test to change a single one, i used the itemClick event which has an itemRenderer property and i applied the style to that itemRenderer and it worked, the thing is that it only works when i click on an item because the itemClick event has an itemRenderer property. I checked the reference on the Tree component and i don't find any way to iterate over the itemRenderers :( Could you send me the exact url of the example you mentioned? I got a bit lost at that site, thanks Tracy
  • 3. Need opinions on handling dates
    Hello, I'm seeking some advice on how to handle dates in my application. I have a datagrid that requires two columns, a column that holds the time of the record (H:MM A), and a column that holds the date of the record (M-D-YYYY). Initially I started with storing both the time and date of the records as text in my access database. This seemed to be the easiest way to both display the data in the datagrid, as well as handle the inserting of new dates to the database. However, the datagrid also needs sorting/filtering functionality by time or date. As expected, text data does not sort/filter the same way as if the data were in date-format in the db table. So I am stuck as a proper-format issue. Do I continue storing my times and dates as strings in the db table, or do I store them as date-type? If I store them as strings, is there a way to get them to sort/filter as dates? If I store them as date-type, how can I get the dates to display in the formats I want (not the long Day M DD HH:MM:SS). I'd like to use the best practice method. thanks

String.split() is an easy way.

 To get the date, split on the space and you have "2008-06-01" as the first
value in the array. In the second value, split again on the colon and you get
the 13, the 02, and 10.000. Then split again on the period to get 10.

Or you might be able to create a Date object and then use its methods to get the data, but depending on your purpose that may be overly complex.

Below is another way to do it.

 var ScheduleStartUTCDatetime:Date = new Date(Date.parse(((("
2008-06-25T16:36:49.534" ).substr(0,19)).replace(/-/g,"/" )).replace(/T/gi,"

Hi everyone,

 var date_time:String = "2008-06-01 13:02:10.000";

 How can I get the date (2008-06-01) out ? for example date = 2008-06-01
 How can I get the hour (13) out ? for example hour = 13
 How can I get the minute (02) out ? for example minute = 02
 How can I get the second (10) out ? for example second = 10

2.10.000+ rows

I'm a VB6 / VB.Net developer, looking into flash as an interface
I figured skinning is all very nice, but why not take it a step

My main concern, before venturing any further, is how to display
datagrids (listviews) with 10.000+ rows (listitems), complete with up
to 10 columns (subitems).
Usually displaying datasets this big would just be bad design, but
this app is used for bulk data manipulation. So there you go.

I doubt flash can deal with these kinds of numbers directly, so I'm
wondering if there are any work-arounds like virtual datagrids
(virtual listviews) to get the job done.

Any ideas?

3.How to turn 1000000 into 1.000.000?

Im creating a swf where users enter some numbers to be processed in a formula,
but the results always show huge numbers like 168460123184, making them hard to
read, so I want to find a way to add a "." (a dot) every 3 numbers, so they
would be easier to read...
 and I dont have a clue of how that can be done :(

 PS: I chose to use dots instead of commas cos here in Brazil we use dots to
separate hundreds from thousands and so on....

4.I want to my external JPG files to have this sequence: 01, 02, ... , 10, 11, ...

5.Creating 30,000+ flash files

I need to create a large amount of flash files, based on one template - each new file would involve changing out the font for another before exporting as SWF. Is there an easy way to batch process this group of files? I originally had looked into Applescript (I'm on Mac OS X) but didn't see much Applescript support in the Flash MX (pre-2004) application.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
