OEXP can't send mail > 4kb

Postby bGxhbWFkcnVtbWE » Sat, 06 Aug 2005 03:16:01 GMT

Laptop running XP SP@, mail scanning disabled. Small messages are sent no
problem. When a mail has more than 2 lines of text it hangs during the send
and returns "no socket error 10053, error # 0x800CCC0F" Connection is via
D-Link DI-524 wls router, MTU in router is 1492. XP firewall is off, router
firewall off, McAfee firewall off. Ideas?

Turn off e-mail scanning. Your anti-virus will still protect you. All it
does is eat up CPUs and cause these Time-outs.

Sorry. I missed that you have already turned off e-mail scanning. The router
could be causing this. Any way to make a direct connection to test it?

Your Outbox could also be damaged.

Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store folder will reveal the location
of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start>Run>Ctrl+V will put the location
in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the
location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WindowsXP, 2K & 3K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start>Control Panel>Folder
Options>View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in
question {Outbox.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created
automatically when you open OE.

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually
become corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing
mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly.
Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as
is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually
while working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File>Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status
Bar).
File>Folder>Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting
is completed.

The second article suggests that you may have to try a variety of MTU
values for Windows to find one that works.

1.Can't Minimize File->Send To->mail Recipient as attachment

This just started possibly due to one of the latest security patches
from Microsoft. As an administrator I have no problem but my domain
users are unable to minimize the mail window when using the send to
function. They used to be able to do this. They could open several
"send to" windows and combine all of the files if they wanted to. But
not now. If anyone has experienced this and can shed some light I
would appreciate it. There are no critical updates I need to install
right now. I am up to date. I am running Citrix XPs on a Win2k
server. I am running Office 2000 on this box also, so Outlook 9.0.
The last updates were done 7/17/04 and I experienced the problem right
around then.

2.>right click >send to >mail recipient

i loaded msn explorer premium..bad idea. anyhow, after its installation,
and even after its uninstallation, i lost the functionality of right
clicking a file, and sending to a mail recipient. The option is still
there, but once i click these items, nothing happens.

after spending 1.5 hours with microsoft windows xp tech support...another
bad idea, nothing different happens either:O

anyone have a solution for this?
