After reinstalling my OS and updating to SP2 I now get the message "there are new newgroups, do you want to see them now?" whenever I open OE. Where do I go to cancel this message from appearing. It doesn't have the checkbox to "don't show me this message again". TIA

I use Outlook Express 6 SP2 as my email and newsgroup program. I have added a signature, and set it for all outgoing email messages. However, my signature is NOT turned on for newsgroup postings, yet it is added anyway when I click "New Post." How do I fix this?
  • 5. Resetting The Don't Show Me This Again Message
I am using Outlook Express 6, with Windows xp service pack 2. I recently exited Outlook Express, and was asked, if I wanted to compact messages. I said ok, but I accidentally, checked the don't show me this message again box. The thing is, I don't want outlook express to automatically compact messages. Is there a way to reset this, so it will ask me, if it should compact messages? -- Earle

Sharing OE 6 massage store over Network

I have a Presario pre-loaded with Win XP SP 2 and IE & OE 6. I recently
bought a Dell also preloaded with the same OS although they offered Vista
Basic at same price which I declined.
I have a broadband connection and I use a Black Box Router with 4 ports and
two for printers.
Hence files are shared and we can access as well as print all docs from both
PC's.

I would ALSO like the Incoming Emails to be recd in both PC's. Is it
possible to do so - if I were to use the same CLSID which is in the Presario
by copying and pasting the mail folder location in the store root of the
Registry in Dell?!

Could this be an alternative to using a PostMaster, the Email Server
Software?!
Thanking you

MS Outlook Express is not designed as a network aware application. Sharing
the message store is a hazardous undertaking which can result in corruption
of the files in the message store, and lost email.

The simple method is to set MSOE on both computers to leave the email on the
server; then, on only one of the computers, create a rule to delete the
email after 5, 6, or 7 days.

You could also look into running a mail server on one of the computers, and
set it up to offer IMAP accounts. I do that using Mercury/32:

No, you cannot share a store across a network.

All incoming mail can be received in OE on both machines if Tools > Accounts
 > Mail > [account(s)] > Properties > Advanced > Delivery is configured
properly on both machines.

1.Share an OE store file over a Network?

I just put together a home network between my old PC and a new notebook.

Is there any way to get OE on my notebook to use the same OE store that
my PC uses so I can view and reorganize mail on my notebook, but my PC
is the machine that downloads it from the server?

2.how can one change the default store folder to network share folder

The default folder for outlook is <documetn and settings
root>\username\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{identityID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
using tools, options, maint tab, store folder tab will not let me.

3.Share one Message Store & WAB w/ multiple XP Users - Can't start OE

Goal:

Trying to share one OE Message Store and one Address Book with multiple XP
Users (NOT multiple OE Identities, just one). Have read MS KnowledgeBase
topics, articles and newsgroup posts. Nothing matches my situation exactly.
Could use advice.

Background:

1. Am Using XP SP1 Home . with 3 User accounts and OE 6, with one OE
Identity (Main Identity).

2. XP "User A" has access to OE Message Store and WAB fine, after
backup from old PC and restore to new PC months ago (using OE Freebie
Backup)

3. XP "User B" could open OE, but didn't see Message folders or WAB.

4. Then, I "Moved" Message Store from ..Documents and Settings \"User
A" folder to ..Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents folder by:

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder. (per MS KB Article Id
317031).

5. XP "User A" still works fine

6. XP "User B" now gets:

Outlook Express could not be started ... 0x8007000E 5.... then ..
Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be
initialized

Possible Solutions ????:

1. Need to move WAB to same folder as Message Store? How?

2. Want to avoid reinstall of OE6

Thanks in advance,
Semaj

4.Share OE accounts or identities over a network

On my home network (using netscape) I can share fully share mail
profiles by sharing the mail folders on the "host" computer and mapping
the mail folder as a network drive on the other computers sharing that
mail file. True, two computers can't have the same profile open at the
same time, but in every other way, in all practical realities, the same
profile is fully functional and accessible from any other computer on
the network provided that the computer hosting the mail folders is
switched on.

I want to be able to do the same thing at my work-place with OE (and
even with one terminal which has Outlook, if possible).

Tip of the month:
Don't use Windex or other chemical cleaners to clean mirrors... This
causes the destruction of the backing of the mirror around the edges.
Splash the mirror with water, and use a dry cloth. It's just as
effective.
