clicking on a link in email causes a new IE window to open
by Rm9yZXN0IERyZWFtZXI » Sun, 22 Nov 2009 04:16:10 GMT
Is there any way to get Outlook Express to open links in a new tab if I
already have internet explorer open instead of opening a new window. I find
that when 2 versions of IE are open at the same time it can cause both to
crash.
I have IE8 set so that when I click on a link on a webpage, it opens in a
new tab. Is there a way to get OE to do the same thing instead of ignoring
the explorer that is already running?
Thank you.

There isn't any setting in OE to control this.
The function is controlled by the Windows File Associations, and the
browser itself.
See this article:

Browser Window

You want to the reverse, so make sure that Use DDE IS checked.
The DDE settings apply if the application (IE) is already open.

Have you visited the tab settings in IE8? It's there.

option?
Doesn't matter to me but a user opened a ticket on it. After looking around
it appears that the right click method is the way it's supposed to work. He
said it used to work that way, a left click and it would open a new windows.
This was before the company was taken off Novell and onto AD, and everyone's

2.new email indicator clicking causes two windows to open
Hey Everyone,
Am I the only one to which this is happening?
I get an alert from messenger that a new email is in my inbox. I click on
the alert and then if I have an existing window open, hotmail opens in the
first and then a new window opens asking me to enter my password and that my
password is not valid. Meanwhile, the other window goes to my inbox.
I don't think that's the way that it should work.
FYI:
Tabbing is off

3.OE will open IE instead of new message window when clicking email
A co-worker has had a weird problem for the last couple of months. Anytime he
clicks on another person's email address in a message in OE 6.0, it will open
30 or more IE windows instead of opening a new message window with that email
address in it. And on occasion, it will not let him attach any files. Does
anyone know what's causing this and how to fix it?
4.SUGGESTION: Links in Emails Should "Open in New Window" into IE
I pull my hair out when clicking on a web link in an Outlook 2007 email and
it highjacks an already open IE browser window (sometimes dumping entered
data).
Can a checkbox option be added to Outlook 2007 for web links in emails to
"Open in New Window" into IE or have a right click menu option to "Open in
New Window" (just like is available on a web page in IE)?
5.Over 50 empty IE windows open when I click a link to an email address
The subject box ALMOST says it all.....I have 4 users on my home
computer and this only happens in one of the accounts.
I can link to web pages with no problem but if I link to an email
address the computer freezes for a few minutes and then anything from
50 - 60 empty Internet Explorer windows open one after the other.
This happens if I click a link in Outlook Express or in Mozilla ( my
preferred web browser)
