  • 1. problem receiving mail
I cannot open emails (mainly PPS and media). But if I save to My Documents, right click the file, select "open with" and hit outlook express, they open. Why wont they open from OE directly ??? Help.
  • 2. OE sorting address book once more
Since the first OE was released "Sorting address book" has been a popular topic on NG:s, but why is it STILL? Microsoft has not learned a bit. Problem is as follows: In Outlook Express WAB, the DEFAULT sorting order of "Display" name is "First name, Last Name", and this is unable to change to more useful "Last Name, First Name". In cases when you check the option to insert new mail addresses automatically or exporting/importing WAB, you will ALWAYS have a mixture of "First name, Last Name" (if you rely on OE defaults) and "Last Name, First Name" (if you have explicitely changed the order for this particular address). Microsoft has had years time to meet the customers' wishes to make the DEFAULT order changable, but they have done nothing. Aarghh! The same case has been in Outlook 97. I have used an external freely distributed software, which has changed the Displayed name to the more useful "Last Name, First Name". ************************** Microsoft developers and MVP:s! How and when are you going to correct this bug? ************************** ---------- hbj

Anyone know of a way to password protect all the folders so they can only be
emptied with a password?

Sort of. Go to File | Identities | Manage Identities and apply a password
to your identity. However, be aware that it is easy to get around this.

1.recovering messages from 'Deleted Items' folder after "Empty 'Deleted Items' Folder" used

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for a FREE solution to recover messages that were
'purged' using the "Empty 'Deleted Items' Folder" option was used on
the 'Deleted Items' folder.

I was cleaning up mail for a friend and removed the 400 MB of items in
the Deleted Items folder. However just before I went to compact the
database, my friend told me he was storing messages there from his
Inbox since the messages never disappeared.

so Duhhhh - the 400 MB Deleted Items.dbx file is still on the drive.

How can a reverse the deletion so that I can recover the messages that
he wants to keep?

I did something for Outlook by corrupting the PST file and then it
rebuilt the index, is there something similar for OE?

I do not think this can be that hard.

Alternatively I would be willing to download a Free Trial program that
could accomplish this task - Any options?

Thanx,

John

4.copy-protect a folder or password-protect a folder

Hi all,

I have a folder containg an exe file (of a program) and some
associated files. I want to make a shortcut of the exe file on the
desktop (so that users can run the program by double-clicking the
shortcut), but I also want that the users should NOT be able to copy
(and/or view) the contents of the folder.

I searched the newsgroups and found a lot of threads on password
protecting the folder/permissions/sharing, but the options like "make
folder private" are not available in my windows as suggested in the
newsgroups (I am running XP pro, NTFS). Also, encrypting the folder
('Encrypt contents to secure data") doesn't help, as folder is still
accessible. I also tried winzip with password, but in this case the
shortcut on desktop doesn't work.
I also tried leaving the folder in the administrator account while
moving the shortcut to the Guest account, but in this case again the
shortcut does not work. I tried hiding the folder and it worked, but
the hidden folder can easily be traced through the shortcut available
on the desktop.

Is there a way to achieve my target?

Thanks
