I upgraded my PC from Window 98 to PX, and tried to access to MSN web site to sign up. After dial connection to MSN the web site does not show up. The same situation occurs to my existing ISP. After dial connection was made to my Internet Server(prodigy.net), the connnection fails to access to my internet account: Error message says that: The host 'pop.prodigy.yahoo.com' could not be found. Please veryfy that you have entered the server name correctly. Ptotocal POP3, port 110, Server(SSL): No Socket Errors: 11004, Error Number: Ox800CCCoD. Do I need to fix something in my PC? I inherited the PC from a person who used OE6 under Window 98.
  • 2. Messages unreadable
Hello, I'm using Outlook Express 6 to send and receive emails from Hotmail account. I did install the Supplemental Language Support and configure the keyboard input for Thai support on my Windows XP Pro. I also add Thai on the Language Preference in Internet Explorer 6 and set the Encoding to "Auto-Select". I can send and receive message in Thai fine. Until recently. my sent messages were not readable by the recipients. And, every time I send a message containing Thai characters, there will be a dialog box, "Message Character Set conflict" asking me to "Send As Unicode", "Send As Is", or "Cancel". For received messages, I have to Encoding to Thai (Windows) in order to make it readable. It's getting more and more inconvenient and irritating. 1. Where/how can I set Outlook Express to use Thai character conversion page? 2. Is it possible to configure Outlook Express to use the character sets automatically according to incoming messages? Thank you. Bussarin

  • 4. newsgroup management
Hi All not sure if this is the right group to post the question to, but couldn't find any other ones that seemed suitable. i am subscribed to a number (dozen or so) newsgroups - in which i "watch conversations" ... the list of headers in the newsgroups are getting quite large and i would like to delete all of the headers except the last 100 or so from each group. I can't figure out how to do this - the only option i've come across is to delete them all & re-subscribe to the group - but then i lose all the "watched conversations" and flags that i've put on. Is there another way? Regards JulieD

Share one Message Store & WAB w/ multiple XP Users - Can't start OE

Postby semaj » Thu, 25 Nov 2004 15:24:52 GMT

Goal:

Trying to share one OE Message Store and one Address Book with multiple XP
Users (NOT multiple OE Identities, just one). Have read MS KnowledgeBase
topics, articles and newsgroup posts. Nothing matches my situation exactly.
Could use advice.

Background:

1. Am Using XP SP1 Home . with 3 User accounts and OE 6, with one OE
Identity (Main Identity).

2. XP "User A" has access to OE Message Store and WAB fine, after
backup from old PC and restore to new PC months ago (using OE Freebie
Backup)

3. XP "User B" could open OE, but didn't see Message folders or WAB.

4. Then, I "Moved" Message Store from ..Documents and Settings \"User
A" folder to ..Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents folder by:

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder. (per MS KB Article Id
317031).

5. XP "User A" still works fine

6. XP "User B" now gets:

Outlook Express could not be started ... 0x8007000E 5.... then ..
Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be
initialized

Possible Solutions ????:

1. Need to move WAB to same folder as Message Store? How?

2. Want to avoid reinstall of OE6

Thanks in advance,
Semaj

You have to set up the same Identity for all users via the registry
Thats the only way.
One change made to one user has to be made to all via an export of the reg
settings and then import into each users.

Create a new folder for the dbx files to go into such as C:\Mail
Set up one user.
Change the folder location in OE
Tools | Options | Maintenance tab | Store Folders button.
Restart OE for the change to take place.

Export the following keys
HKCU\Identities

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Accounts Manager

You may want to move the Address Book location as well.
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\WAB
Edit that value to a location such as C:\Mail and put the WAB file in it.

Now, close OE. Each user may not be able to have OE open at the same time
and just switching between users.

Log into the next user and import those reg files into the registry.
Do this for each user.

Make sure the close OE before switching users or logging off.

And back up alot.

Anytime a user adds an account or a newgroups the reg keys will have to be
exported and imported into the other users accounts.

OE wasn't designed to be shared and definitely not on a mapped drive or
shared folder. Those are temporary and if access is removed, OE creates new
dbx files in the default location.

Did I mention backup a lot?

Have to disagree with DGuess - Before my PC crashed some time ago (due to a
virus) I had 4 Users set up on one PC with XP Home.
2 accounts (son & daughters) each only downloaded a single users emails from
separate addresses with the same ISP (easy enough just create the Users OE
account with their own email address details)
The other 2 accounts (mine & wife's) each viewed the same inbox and folders
and emails received/sent were viewable by either User.
Not being technically minded I achieved this through shared files/folders
and certainly not through the Registry (I wouldnt know where to start).
Unfortunately I didnt keep a note of how I did it and since reinstalling I
have been unable to replicate. If anybody has any ideas I'd also like to hear
them.

2.Still can't share WAB w/ multiple XP Users

3.Sharing Address Book in OE 6 With Multiple Users in Windows Xp Professional

I have a single family computer in which I have set up two users. I am the
administrator.

Each user has their own email adress and password on the ISP's server

I would like both users to share an address book so that edits by one user
appears in the other users address book.

How can I do this? How do Identities figure in with XP Pro User Options?

4.OE won't start..could not start MSOE.dll and unable to open the message store

5.Multiple XP user accounts with one e-mail store

Good Day

I am trying to set up 4 user accounts (1 administrator, 3 limited
accounts for day to day use, don't want to be an administrator while
on-line) with all acounts sharing one e-mail account and mail store. I
have got this to work while each account is an administrator but
Outlook Express fails to start when an account is changed to a limited
account. If I change it back to administrator the mail works again.
Outlook Express (OE6) has 1 mail store (F:/Mail).

How can I fix this problem?

Any help is appreciated. Four nights searching the web has failed to
find an answer.

Regards
Andrew
