  • 1. Connecting non domain user to domain SQL BCM 2007
We have successfully installed and are using SQL Express 2005 on a domain account on a server and domain users are using BCM fine on their machines. The database admin tool offers domain accounts to be added to sharing list, all works fine for domain logged on users. However we have two machines who are domain connected computers (and have domain computer accounts) but due to legacy reasons the users are logging on as local machine accounts rather than domain accounts. Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2007 works fine for these users. However the BCM 2007 Database admin tool offers no way to add workgroup/local machine accounts to list of database users. I have tried adding SQL authenticated accounts to the SQL database (using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express), but it appears the users account information is being refused by the server before even being passed to SQL server (ie nothing in the SQL logs). From BCM2007 I get "Cannot find the remote user account name xxxx xxxx". Any thoughts ? I don't want to really convert the machine accounts to domain accounts (with all the time and hassle and downtime that incurrs) as currently everything works fine for the users except unable to connect to SQL server.
  • 2. BCM2003 Exception Error HRESULT 0x8004010F
I'm running Outlook 2003 on Exchange Server 2003, and BCM v2 with a shared database. Everything works well, except if I have another Exchange user's mailbox open on my folder list. If I click on any of the messages in this user's folder, I receive the following error: Business Contact Manager Exception from HRESULT: 0x8004010F ... and I'm unable to open any of his messages. If I close the BCM data file entirely, the problem disappears. Any thoughts? John.
  • 3. Contact Phone Number Customization
I am trying to customize my Outlook contacts. I want to add a new category in the drop down list that appears next to phone numbers (ex. Business, Business 2, etc.). Does anyone have experience with this?
  • 4. Merged email - greeting insert does not match address book entry
I am creating a merged document using Word and MS e-mail campaign service. I finally got the correct sequence of steps to create the document but now Word is showing both the first and last name in the "last name field" (lastname, firstname) format. When I go back to BCM and look at the contact name fields, they are correctly placed in the right fields. Why does Word see them together in the last name field and how do I fix the problem? THanks - JD

Cannot seem to use BCM Database Tool on SQL Server 2008

Postby Y2JlY2ttYW4 » Thu, 23 Jul 2009 03:53:01 GMT

I am trying to install BCM onto a sql 2008 server for shared usage. The
server is running Windows 2008 32 bit.

I have an instance "CSSSQL01\MSSMLBIZ" that I installed as a local admin
account "CSSSQL01\sqlsmlbizadmin" I can use SSME to connect to this
instance, using Windows Authentication (logged in as this user).

However, when I use Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 Database Tool
to try to Create a New Database, I receive this error message "Cannot
retrieve the list of SQL Server instance. Please make sure that SQL Server
2005 or SQL Server 2005 Express is installed and that the service is
running." Clicking OK closes the program.

Any ideas?

I only saw one other thread about this and it ended in August 2008 without
an answer.

Thank you,
chuck

This could happen if you are running a 64 bit edition of SQL 2005 . Also
note that the BCM admin tool will not work with SQL 2008

Thank you, this is the first time I have explicitly seen that BCM Admin Tool
does NOT work on sql 2008.

Any problems with backing up a BCM database from an existing 2005 instance
and restoring that onto sql 2008?

Again, thank you for the info about the BCM admin tool NOT working on sql
2008.

Not that I have heard of , but clients connecting to the shared database
will not be able to recognize the change

The BCM Sql instance must be using a specific TCP port that BCM
clients use to connect to sql.

1.BCM Admin Tool on a Windows 2008 x64 Server running SQL 2008

I can't find any documentation that will support this.so I'm just curious as
to whether anyone has accomplished this before I attempt myself. I'm sure
there are others out there wondering the same or perhaps may have even
attempted this. I know I can run the admin tool with SQL 2005 x64. Thanks.

2.Using the Database Tool on Small Business Server 2008

We've just got a new server with SBS 2008 and I'm trying to get BCM going
again.

Had it all running fine on SBS2003 using the database tool. I did a backup
of the database before migrating server, and have installed the Database Tool
on the new server ok.

Have created a new database and restored it, and it told me everything was
okay. But I can't get any of the client computers to connect. (All running
Outlook 2007)

When I went back in to the database tool running on the server and tried to
check the permissions, the database didn't even seem to exist!

Has anyone successfully done this on SBS2008?

Has anyone tried running Outlook 2007 with BCM on a shared SQL2008 database?
I.e. like as SQL2005 SP2 implementation but with SQL2008

5.Installing SQL Server 2008 Express with BCM installed

I've had BCM installed for a while now. It is using the 2005 verion of
SQL Server.

I want to download and install SQL Server 2008 Express to learn about
SQL.

Question: Do I need to install SQL Server 2008, or can I just create a
new database in SQL Server 2005 that BCM installed?

Question: Will there be conflicts if I install SQL Server 2008 Express
on the same machine as BCM?

Thanks

Dino
