  • 1. BCM Performance Question
I know it's an old story, but is there any way of speeding up BCM? I have this setup: - A group of 8 users, each with high-spec workstations - BCM database is running on a server, using full-blown SQL Server, not MSDE. - about 8000 contacts / accounts (4500 contacts, 3500 accounts) The problems I get are: - Linking an email to a contact. This makes the Workstation CPU run at 100% for 30 secs to a minute. The other issues are not linked to CPU usage - Searching for accounts can sometimes take a lot of time - Editing or viewing an entry in an account record can be painfully slow - You can be viewing an account record and the BCM window will disappear and you will have to click on BCM again to get it back I've not tried adjusting Virus scanners, but then as the data is kept in the database and not in local files I can't see how an Anti-Virus system could cause issues. I'm about to try running a SQL profiler trace, which I'll then run the Index Tuning Wizard on. Does anybody out there have any other ideas on how to speed this up? Failing that, does anybody out there have any other ideas on how to migrate to a decent product? thanks, Russ
  • 2. Operation Failed error
Hi! I've cheated a little bit to install BCM on a terminal server. I've made a custom installation (used the custom installation wizard to generate an mst file) that tells Outlook to use cached mode. This way BCM installs OK eventhough it seems that Outlook isn't really using cached mode... So this could of course be the problem. Anyway: Sometimes when users open and read e-mails they receive an error from BCM saying: "The operation failed". I don't know which operation is failing so it's hard to troubleshoot the problem. Has anyone else seen this error and knows what it means? Is there a log that I can look through to find the source of the problem? Thanks in advance Morten
  • 3. How to add Business Contacs from received mails
Clicking a senders email address does make it possible to add (or lookup) the Contact in the Contacts folder. But I want Outlook to add (or lookup) my Business Contact, NOT a contact in my normal contacts folder. Is it possible? -- BR Jonna

AVG Antivirus Grisoft (and others) turn off OSE.EXE. It can be turned on manually, but I am sure there is a way to put a command in for Outlook to open OSE.EXE while Bus Contact manager opens and then close OSE again. Any help out there?

Backup BCM database in Outlook 2007 w/BCM

I can't find how to backup the BCM database. Help says:
On the Business Contact Manager menu, point to Database Tools, and then
click Manage Database.
In the Manage Database dialog box, on the Back up/Restore tab, click Back up
Database.
I don't see this menu or anywhere a Database Tools.
Help please!

1.Backup BCM database in Outlook 2003 w/BCM

I have a user who will be using the Business Contact Manager in Outlook
2003. I se the built-in method of backing up the database, but is there a
way to allow me to do unattended backups of it or if the PC is off?

If I could store the database on the server (SBS2003) that would be great.
Alternatively I'm looking for some other options to automate it as much as
possible so there is no or minimal user interaction, or at worst, something
launched just before leaving for the day that stores it on the server.

If this isn't the right place, please point me to the right place. Thanks.

2.Importing BCM 2003 backup in another language in B2TR and Outlook 2007 with BCM

I once downloaded the whole Office 2007.
With BCM it went completely wrong.
It as not possible to import the backup of BCM 2003 into Outlook 2007,
'Sorry, wrong language' the error message was. (BCM 2007 did not
convert my BCM 2003 database automatically). And so I had to end Office
2007, reinstall Outlook 2003 and BCM 2003, which took about an hour.
Now there is the Technical Refresh. Will I now be able to import the
Dutch BCM 2003 backup? Or will the conversion of BCM 2003 to BCM 2007
succeed during installation? Is there anyone having positive
experiences?

3.Can not import the US BCM 2003 database into Dutch BCM 2007

How can I convert/import an BCM 2003 database (en-us) into a Dutch BCM 2007
database?

I've installed office enterprice 2007 with business contact manager (Dutch
version. before I worked with BCM 2003, which worked quite good. The BCM 2003
database contains all my contacts and business administration.

When I tried to import these into the new intallation, I recieved an
errormessage stating the database is made in a English (US) version and is
not compatible with the new Dutch database.
