Hello, I need to transfer my old BCM 2003 data files from an external hard drive (that came off a Win XP Pro system that blew up) to my new desktop with Win Vista Home Premium system. I need to know the names/file extensions and locations of all the old data files. All the documentation I see only says how to backup or export using the functions in OUtlook which is not workable now. Can anyone tell me where I can find this info or how to do so? Thanks, God bless and Merry Christmas

I entered an attorney's clients/contacts into Office Prof 07 BCM. He wants to use Mail Merge for letters, labels, fax cover sheets, and he saves some emails in client folders. Is there any reason for him to use BCM as he is not using the majority of the BCM features?

BCM Accounts and Business Contacts in BCM

Postby Z2Vvc2hpbW8 » Mon, 29 Oct 2007 06:00:00 GMT

I just got the and new to using Outlook w/ BCM recently. I would like to
find out how to effectively use the BCM. On the left side of Outlook BCM
there is Contacts. Under Contacts there is My Contact. Then there is BCM.
Within BCM there is Accounts in BCM and also Business Contacts in BCM.
I am in Real Estate and would like to find out how to set up my client
contact info. I have individual clients and I also have groups of client
contact, ie: clients from a group of states.

Any advise on setting up and using the BCM in the Accounts in BCM and also
Business Contacts in BCM.

Thanks,

George

RE: BCM Accounts and Business Contacts in BCM

The straight answer is:

Business account is created and business contacts are associated with the
business account.

A business contact can stand alone without any Account association and this
would only seem a practical play for recording simple contact information and
not for doing business with them. If you are doing any business exchanges
with them then create an account of them and add them also as a contact.

Once you use your Outlook for communications for a little bit you will see
the value in this order when you run any of the BCM reports.

If you know very little, I would recommend you take a 15 minute slot of time
and plunge head first into the tutorial and get some exposure. Continue to
immerse yourself in the Help until you feel adequately familiar with the
coming and goings of this tool.

1.Creating BCM.Account & BCM.Contact items in Technical Refresh

I'm experiencing problems with an add-in I'm developing after installing the
Technical Refresh.

Previously when I created a BCM.Account or a BCM.Contact object, all the BCM
specific item properties existed, now none of them are so things are going
pear shaped in my application.

I can create these properties after I create the object but why are they no
longer created by default when the object is created. Seem a little bizare
that this used to work but now it dosn't, I can't believe that this is an
'feature enhancement'.

2.BCM Account cannot see BCM Contacts

i have successfully set up a bunch of Accounts over the past few days.
I had some existing contacts and added a bunch of new ones. From th
Account record I successfully linked a contact, all from the new ones
had created.

Today I can create a new contact and create a new account. when I g
to link the contact from the account screen the select box is no longe
populated with any of the new contacts I have created and only sees th
few that were previously there. I can go to contacts and see, selec
and open any contact record. I can open an existing Account and click o
an previously linked contact and that contact will be found.

I have
- run office diagnostics and one issue was fixed
- run MS SCANPST and SCANOST
- deleted my old outlook profile and created a new one (costly, los
all my categories and all my contacts out of my address book hav
vanished.)

A different but perhaps related issue is that while my address boo
contacts have vanished from outlook they still exist on my iphone
However when I synch my iphone through itunes Outlook does not ge
updated with the many contacts on my iphone.

I run Vista SP1 and Outlook/Office 2007 on a Lenovo X61 Tablet with
Gigs of RAM. I am currently up to date on MS Updates.

Any help appreciated

3.Outlook with BCM not Showing Accounts for Business Contact

For some reason, OUTLOOK with BUSINESS CONTACT MANAGER
stopped presenting my Business Contacts organized by
ACCOUNT. The contacts are organized under "Account Name
(none)," yet all the Account information is retained in
the database. So far I cleared the cache and even re-
assigned Account names to Busienss Contacts, without
success, and did a 'repair installatiion." Any ideas?
Thanks!

4.OL'07 w/ BCM: Reminders from Business Accounts/Contacts

In my "Reminders" pop-up dialogue box there are many items for which I do not
recall setting up specific reminders. They are all Accounts, Contacts and
Linked Items from my Business Contact Manager. If I click the Dismiss
button, the reminder disappears for a few seconds but then reappears in my
list, so I cannot clear my reminders.

Q1: Are these reminders automatically created somehow when an
account/contact is created in BCM or an item is linked to an existing
account/contact?

Q2: Where can I go to turn these reminders off?

I appreciate all who take the time to respond to queries in this discussion
group. Thank you.

5.BCM Lists Accounts and Business Contacts twice in Address Book

When I open the Address Book and select the drop down box "Show Names from
the:" I see "Accounts" and "Business Contacts" twice, while my typical
contact files are only listed once (I've got 3 folders of contacts and am
migrating them all over to BCM).

When I click on the first Accounts and Business contacts, I get an error
message stating, "The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts
folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have
been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on
how to remove this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Office
Outlook Help.

The second Accounts listed in the Address book doesn't seem to be working
right either (It only show one of my 5 accounts), but I'm not getting an
error message. The second copy of Business Contacts seems to be working well.

To troubleshoot, I went into the properties of Accounts (I don't want it in
my Show Names for Accounts list anyway) and unchecked the option for it to
show in the Address Book. Now, instead of showing two Accounts listed, it
only shows the one that gives me the error message).

This seems to tell me that Outlook "sees" another BCM database somewhere (In
my Administrator account???) and will not connect.

Well that sounds simple, but I only have one BCM database and one BCM .pst
file in this Windows XP account. Is my BCM linked to the .pst file for the
Administrator?

Does anyone have an idea why I see these two files twice and how I can
remove the "junk" from my address book?

Thanks
