I have a user running Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager. Outlook started giving her error messages that the reminders could not be set and then "crashing." I've encountered that error before and know it has to do with the pst file being too large. We uninstalled and reinstalled OL and had same errors. We uninstalled BCM and then OL would at least open to an extent. Uninstalled OL, created new pst (saving the old pst with a different name), installed OL and have it up and running. As soon as we installed BCM on this new pst, we get the same errors that the reminders can't be set, that OL needs to close and has generated errors, etc., etc. We've once again uninstalled BCM and OL is running just fine. So, I'm looking for advice on how to get BCM installed and working again (if possible). Failing that, how can we get the business contacts to open in OL or to get them transferred to OL or imported into OL? Thanks in advance for any help.

You have a workgroup with two Windows XP machines, one with XP Home Edition, one with XP Pro. Installed Sonicwall VPN Client on either computer and it disrupted and it disrupted the workgroup membership. This occured prior to defining any security policies for the VPN. The workgroup could only be restored when the Sonicwall VPN Client software was removed. -- KA

Can I share BCM V2 Database on 2003 by using BCM Data Admin Tool

Postby SWN5 » Wed, 24 Feb 2010 00:21:01 GMT

I created a BCM database in my local machine and I would like to move it to
the server so other machines on the network can have access to it as well. I
used osql -E -S command to stop the BCM database from my machine and moved it
to the server, and I re-attached BCM database from the server.

EXEC sp_attach_db @dbname = N'STS_Config', @filename1 =
N'C:\new_database_location\STS_Config.mdf', @filename2 =
N'C:\new_database_location\STS_Config_log.ldf'

Can I have other machine attach to the Database in the server the same way?
Since I am the owner, I still have to give permission to user to access it.
But I would rather perfer to have Admin on the server have the total control
of DB. It seems MS2007 BCM Data Admin Tool is the way to go, but does it work
on the database created by BCM V2 on MS2003?

I installed the BCM Data Admin Tool + SQL 2005 Express, when I launch the
Admin Tool it did not find the BCM Instance, is there a special way to
configure that?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi Icy,
The Admin Tool for BCM 2007 only works with BCM 2007 databases and
does not work with BCM 2003 databases.
There might be ways for moving V2 database to a server but I don't
have an answer for you yet.

I heard that there are white papers on support.microsoft.com that
talks about how to do this in BCM 2003. You should give that a try.

1.BCM-V2 (Outlook 2003 BCM SP3) TO BCM-V3 (Outlook 2007) Migration

I've got a two backups from my BCM-V2 SP3 installation :
A) Completed Export to BCM (From Outlook 2003)
B) Database Backup From MSSQL 2003 (Express Ed, or Whatever)

I Did a clean install (on Another WorkStation) of Office 2007, then install
Outlook BCM-V3 (Witch install MSSQL Express Ed 2005, and creates an empty
database)

I've follow two differents steps to try to make the migration :
A) Import BCM File (From my previous exported BCM (Outlook 2003)).
ERROR : Something like "Outlook can't make the last action", and nothing
append, another thing is that, I must kill outlook process to get rid of that
pop-up (Cancel and BACK buttons doesn't work)
B) Restore Database into MSSQL Express 2005:
It seams that this last step is the right one, but, when the process is in
the middle of the migration, it stops, and shows a pop-up with something like
"You're not allowed to restore database, plese contact the owner (my self) of
the database, before restore" (This is not the exactly msg, but the meaning
is the same)

My last chance, is to backup database, with password, and try to restore
again, and see what append. No other clue for me, any help ??

Thxs,

(Excuse my bad english))

2.BCM V2 Share database

Im trying to share the BCM database so that other users in the P2P network
could share it. This error message pops up - Business Contact Manager for
Outlook could not complete your last action. Please try again.

Steps tried
New profile with new database
Uninstalled and reistalled BCM

Any other suggestions

3.BCM Database Admin Tool Message

Hi,

When I share a database with the database admin tool I get the following
message:

Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 Database Tool:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue,
the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click
Quit, the application will close immediately.
The system cannot find the file specified.

Details are giving by clicking on the details buttons.
If I press continue, it continues on and everything seems to be working fine.

Is this something to worry about?

Thanks!
