Can't seem to install BCM

  • 1. BCM Setup failed to install
I am running Windows XP sp3, Office Pro 2007 with Business Contact Manager sp1. Several months ago, I tried unsuccessfully to install BCM on this computer - don't recall exactly what the problem was then. Today, I tried reinstalling BCM again. Before attempting the install, I created a restore point, checked to make sure Interop and Small Business Connectivity items were deleted from Control Panel. There were no SQL items listed. So I ran setup. BCM appeared to install, but then I received a message "Setup failed to install Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007." No error numbers. By the way, the logs said that the installation of BCM, Interop and SB Connectivity was successful! Interop and SB Connectivity appear in the Control Panel under Add/Remove. BCM does not. Nor does SQL server 2005. On my other computer, I had to reformat my hard drive and start over because of SQL error issues that could not be resolved by Microsoft support. I'm hoping I don't have to resort to that on this computer. I would very much appreciate any suggestions anyone might have.
  • 2. Account | Business Contacts Sub-form damaged, how to repair???
In the Accounts form, there is a Business Contacts group sub-form or region with a table of linked Business Contacts for that Account. I have an installation where the first two fields (Primary & Name) do not show. This is a default form and I haven't found a way to access or modify the form. Any ideas?
  • 3. Why can't I use an existing field in my contact form in BCM?
I'm in contacts - General tab. I selected 'customize form' and made a group which I called 'Details'. I then tried to make a field called 'Status' in my 'details' group and BCM is giving me an error saying that 'A predefined field 'Status' already exists' and won't let me use it. Is it possible to remove the field 'status' from the group that it is in and put it in my new 'Details' group? 'Status' is currently in a default group called 'Classification' which is there in BCM as default. Can I change around the supplied default groups and fields or are they perminantly fixed and untouchable? Does this mean I have to think of another name and use something else instead of 'status'? -Frankie
  • 4. Retrieving BCM database after fresh install of Vista
I have done a fresh install on my laptop of Vista Ultimate, and also of Outlook 2007 - how do I find the BCM database that I was using before the install of Vista?
  • 5. Cannot display business contact name properly
I USE BUSINESS CONTACT MANAGER, BUT WHEN SENDING EMAILS, THE NAME DOES NOT DISPLAY PROPERLY. The name displays with the middle initial first or the last name first. Worse, this is not consistent. Some names do display properly but others don't. What can I do to fix this?

Can't seem to install BCM

Postby jason » Sat, 04 Mar 2006 05:46:15 GMT

Hi all, I'm on a SBS2003 network, my workstation is XP Pro SP2.
I've tried to install BCM twice, and I still can't view any of the features
of it in Outlook. the help file was installed, but I can't see anything in
the top panel or folder list that refers to anything BCM.
I don't have anything in my Outlook disabled items under the help menu.

Any help would be appreciated.

BCM setup has 2 phases. The first is installing the bits on your client
with the setup program on your CD. The second phase happens when
Outlook is opened for the first time with a particular mail profile
after the bits are installed. A wizard will appear asking if you want
to use BCM with that mail profile.

If setup installed the bits on your workstation successfully, you can
try opening Outlook with a new mail profile to confirm that BCM bits
are correctly installled on the workstation. If the wizard doesn't come
up, something went wrong with the setup program. If the wizard comes
up, then you'll need to figure out why the wizard doesn't come up with
your regular mail profile.

I found my answer. Apparently, because I am using SBS2003, I needed an
update:

Now it works.

2.(revised) INSTALL BCM - uninstall BCM - install BCM - still no BCM

An Addendum - 10 minutes later)
I just went into the DATA FILE MANAGEMENT setting on OLK (outlook) and added
BCM. Like before - it installs it but there is NO TOOLBAR so I cannot
restore - move - or add contact to my old BCM contact database. (from a
previous version of outlook). SO - my problems are reduced to ADDING THE BCM
TOOLBAR to the top of my OUTLOOK 2003 window.
I have the OUTLOOK CONNECTOR showing but no BCM. thanx again - in advance -

3.INSTALL BCM - uninstall BCM - install BCM - still no BCM

HI - whew - please help me get my OUTLOOK w/bcm to show my BC's again.

I excitedly have the fat 2 disk set of OFFICE SBM 2006. It works but for the
BCM (the second most important part after email). In increasingly desperate
attempts to get it to function correctly, I read and did most of what was
suggested here in this forum. I put in CD ONE to put in OUTLOOK, put in CD 2
to added BCM (and accounting) and after several attempts of install and
un-install and re-install I got it to work - BUT with NO TOOLBAR. sigh... 2
days full of frustrating hours I have NO BCM, NO TOOLBAR and NO MORE CLUES as
to what to do.

PULEEEEZE TEAM MS - help me get back to work here.
FEEDBACK CLUES: The registry (as in another post) says: REGDWORD (3) and
I've done ALL of the updates. BIG CLUE - I also re-installed WINXP (pro) and
noticed it added me (log in name) twice, once as DRIX (primary) and NOW I'm
DRIX.millhouse (my network) with my other programs still listed there but w/o
functionality to them. (sigh again...) PULEEEZE help me kidz - im losing
time - patience - AND the names/numbers to MY CLIENTS!!!!!!! (yikes!)
THANX - I'll be here waiting for your holy words of cure.

4.Cant seem to install BCM with Outlook 2007

I recently installed MS Ultimate Hero Suite and had to install BCM
separately. I've never been able to get it to work. What am I doing wrong?

5.BCM installs OK but seems missing.

Office 2007 with SP1. BCM installs OK from CD 2 along with SQL Express and
Accounting 2007. I have looked for the BCM featuers in Outlook. I cannot
find any changes for the features.

Accounting 2007 and SQL Express are there. Am I missing something
fundamental? I have lots of contacts. I have been using my Outlook 2007
fine for years.

Perplexed.

Please help in you can.
