  • 3. Sharing database in network where computers have the same log-in n
How do I share a database in a network where each computer has the same two log-in names? I shared the datebase on the "server" computer, & the two log-ins appeared there on that computer, but, under the column "User Name," with the the name of the ervercomputer there in front of the two user names. I checked the boxes. Then I went to the computer my wife normally uses. Of course, the COMPUTER has a different name, but, again, the two log-in names are the same. I was able to access the database from her computer with no problem, but am I doing this right? I would have thought that would have had to have added her computer's name as well as the log-in name on the "server computer." But I didn't. Should I have? If so, how do you add the computer's name and not just the log-in name in the add process? I see only where one can add the log-in name. I am new to this. Now we have an additional issue: a person is helping us on a 3rd computer in the network, but that computer has the same 2 log-ins on it as all the other computers in the network. We want this person helping us to work on the database. Can the computer that she is using also access the database with the same log-in name my wife uses on the computer that she normally uses -- and at the same time? Thanks in advance for the help.
  • 4. Mail Merge on Business Projects
Hi, I know you're able to mail merge on business contacts but i can't seem to figure out how to mail merge on business projects. Would anybody have any helpful information? My company does several projects for one client so we would like to make contacts (using mail merge) based on project and not by contact. Thanks,

Has she added any Outlook user properties to her Contact?

Luther,

She had not made any changes to that particular contact. All she did was
import all the contacts from an Excel list a day before. Then I received the
cell phone number for a client and typed it into the field - hit save and
close and it gave me the error. I went to her machine and we added the cell
phone number and it accepted it.

Thanks

2.BCM cannot save the item-it cannot recongnize some of the properti

I have Vista/Outlook 2007/BCM 2007 with Customizations + SBA integration.
When I try to create a record I receive "Business Contact Manager cannot save
the item because it can not recongnize some of it's properties."

Everything worked for a while just fine. But now I cannot create Accounts,
Business Contacts, Business Projects, Opportunities, or really any record at
all no matter how I attempt to do so. Copy from Contacts folder doesn't
work. Manually adding them doesn't work, etc..

After long trail and error (breaking the SBA/BCM integration, deleting all
customizations, backing up and restoring various bcm and bcmx files) I have
completely removed the database, uninstalled BCM 2007, Re-installed BCM 2007
and started from scratch. Once I re-installed I began to customize the forms
and after that created a few Accounts and several Business Contacts to test.
Everything worked. I ran SBA/BCM integration and all worked. I continued to
add Accounts and Business Contacts. Then I closed SBA or Outlook/BCM (I am
not sure which one was the cause) later to re-open Outlook/BCM I received the
error no matter what I try? I even speculated that the SBA/BCM integration
required both programs to be open at the same time in my desperation :-(

I believe that BCM customized forms are somehow affected (influenced) by
SBA/BCM integration. Is this true? Is it documented? And if so is there a
way to have both SBA and BCM with "customized forms"

3.BCM contact open error "string was not recognized as a valid b

Sat,
I cannot open or even right click the disfunctional contact in BCM. The
contact happens to be me (?!) I do have a copy of the contact I had copied to
the regular contacts folder that works ok. The BCM copy used to work fine. I
did integrate BCM with Accounting 2008 and this is one of the few contacts
that would be affected. I suspect this is the problem.

I could just delete the BCM contact and copy in the regular contact, but I
am concerned that there may be a systematic problem that affects other
contacts or will recur. What do you recommend?

4.BCM contact open error "string was not recognized as a valid boole

Outlook 2007 BCM fails to open one specific contact with the error "string
was not recognized as a valid boolean." This contact has worked properly
before. Other contacts open fine, although I have not tried every contact.
Everything else appears normal. I ran the database defrag/error check and
received no complaints, but nothing was repaired. How do I repair this (and
possibly other) contacts?

5.(revised) INSTALL BCM - uninstall BCM - install BCM - still no BCM

An Addendum - 10 minutes later)
I just went into the DATA FILE MANAGEMENT setting on OLK (outlook) and added
BCM. Like before - it installs it but there is NO TOOLBAR so I cannot
restore - move - or add contact to my old BCM contact database. (from a
previous version of outlook). SO - my problems are reduced to ADDING THE BCM
TOOLBAR to the top of my OUTLOOK 2003 window.
I have the OUTLOOK CONNECTOR showing but no BCM. thanx again - in advance -
