I am considering switching from ACT (because of poor technical support - I wait hrs on the phone for support) to Business Contacts. Is there a tutorial somewhere I can look at so I can see what BC offers and how I would go about converting from ACT to Business Contacts? Thanks, Steve
  • 2. Unable to install BCM part of Office Pro Trial
Hello, I just installed the trial version of office professional 2007 (I had 2003). This is a vista business machine, and the first exe file installed find and all the office products have been updated. When I try to run the second file (X13-40150.exe), it craps out saying that it can't install SQL 2005. I have rebooted, made sure outlook and sql services were not running, but I still get the same error. This install file upgrades the business contact manager, which is the main thing I want to try for 2007. Does anyone know what the problem could be? It doesn't say why, it just says that it could not be installed and installation cannot continue. Any help would be appreciated. I checked to see if I can uninstall the previous version, but it is not in the list of programs to add/remove. -- Thanks, Rick

I'm trying to print an address book from office 2007 Business contacts. Unlike Office contacts it adds several extra unwanted fields such as categories, Active,do not call,do not fax, do not send letter and many more for each address. These items to not appear as fields in the "view fields" so one is unable to delete them. Has anyone any suggesstion, Sincerely, Gordon

Syncing between my BCM contacts and my regular contacts?

Postby boe » Fri, 11 Nov 2005 04:54:28 GMT

Since I can't sync my regular contacts OTA with my WM5 devices I was
wondering if there is a way of synching the data of my BCM contact info with
my regular exchange e-mail account contact info. That way I could get the
basic contact info on my WM5 device updated OTA and I could also access the
basic contact info using OWA.

Thanks

Right - but that does you no good unless you manually want to go through
this unpleasant process every evening. I was looking for a sync utility not
a manual export import process. I need an actual FIX from MS to resolve this
issue.

Thanks

boe,

As you certainly know, there is a huge difference between exporting /
importing vs. synching. The former is a 1 time manual overwrite process
whereas synching is an automatic, instantaneous means of keeping things
identical ongoing. Such a utility does not currently exist to my knowledge.
You are S.O.L. in this regard.

Additional comments:

This is not intended to easily play off of your obvious discontent but the
very nature of BCM's design is to force you to adopt an additional (separate)
set of data that can be worked with inside of the familiar Outlook user
interface. BCM's separate data however is much more limited in its allowance
for outside remote access as opposed to stand alone Outlook data. While BCM
is a few steps forward in the right direction its use requires a few steps
backwards in what you must tolerate with the trade off of more limited access
and sharing options. This trade off is entirely unnecessary in my opinion
and I wish someone would start to really get this simple idea. There is a
huge waiting game going on among serious users of this rudimentary add-in.
BTW, did I already mention "limited?" Silly workarounds are just so 90's!

Best regards,

-THP

I agree - but I have no idea of how to put a fire under MS to get it taken
care of.

GeniusConnect has auto. sync options?, you don't have to do it manually!
Once the Contact folder is connected to BCM database, you can schedule the
auto sync.

It is one time config, and you can import the .ini template so it is done in
minutes

There is nothing like yet anther outside, 3rd party developer solution to
come to the rescue in order to possibly fill in the gap of a solution that
really should not even by design be necessary in the first place.

4.Sync Regular Contacts w/ Business Contacts in 2007

Has the following issue been updated and now possible in 2007 Outlook
w/ BCM? (see old post below)

It is a critical flaw in the functionality! To be able to sync into
Pocket PC caller ID contacts and have an ability to sync business and
regular contacts within outlook, instead of editting each
independently.

5.BCM contacts look just like regular Outlook contacts

Business Contact and Accounts in BCM look just like a regular Outlook contact
when I open them.

I'm sort of new to BCM. I was using it without a problem, linking contacts
to accounts, recording history, sending e-mails, etc.
But now the view has changed both for when I double-click on contacts or
accounts. I don't see the field to link Account to Contact and vice-versa. I
also can't find how to acess my history. The whole thing has simply
disappeared.

This has became extremely important to me, if anyone could help, I'd deeply
appreciate it.
