For all the time BCM is supposed to save me it sure makes it hard to use what is already in my Outlook2003 folders. I try adding an account and want to use the email address from a contact in my Outlook Contacts folder and get this.... "An Outlook Address Book entry cannot be used as an email address in a contact." Why not? This is certainly not intuitive.

Getting Old bcm database to new PC with BCM Installed

Postby RGF2ZQ » Fri, 04 Jul 2008 21:45:01 GMT

I recently upgraded to a new PC. I have installed MS Office 2003 and all
updates
I have been unable to successfully get my old Business Contact Manager
database into the new software by trying to get the new PC/BCM to recognize a
backup copy of the old database and integrate it into the new PC program.

Can anyone explain to me how this should be done? I'd rather not convert to
a .csv file if I can avoid it. Isn't there a way to get the new Business
Contact Manager to recognize the old database and just bring it in?

thanks

Dave

1.outlook 2003 with bcm new profile, but need old bcm database info

Hi, I am trying to help a small business owner who split off from his
partnership that had a domain with exchange, but his new office only has a
workgroup with no domain. He is looking for his business contact manager
database, which will be under his old profile. Is it possible to restore the
old bcm database in an old profile to his new workgroup profile? Any help in
this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

2.(revised) INSTALL BCM - uninstall BCM - install BCM - still no BCM

An Addendum - 10 minutes later)
I just went into the DATA FILE MANAGEMENT setting on OLK (outlook) and added
BCM. Like before - it installs it but there is NO TOOLBAR so I cannot
restore - move - or add contact to my old BCM contact database. (from a
previous version of outlook). SO - my problems are reduced to ADDING THE BCM
TOOLBAR to the top of my OUTLOOK 2003 window.
I have the OUTLOOK CONNECTOR showing but no BCM. thanx again - in advance -

3.INSTALL BCM - uninstall BCM - install BCM - still no BCM

HI - whew - please help me get my OUTLOOK w/bcm to show my BC's again.

I excitedly have the fat 2 disk set of OFFICE SBM 2006. It works but for the
BCM (the second most important part after email). In increasingly desperate
attempts to get it to function correctly, I read and did most of what was
suggested here in this forum. I put in CD ONE to put in OUTLOOK, put in CD 2
to added BCM (and accounting) and after several attempts of install and
un-install and re-install I got it to work - BUT with NO TOOLBAR. sigh... 2
days full of frustrating hours I have NO BCM, NO TOOLBAR and NO MORE CLUES as
to what to do.

PULEEEEZE TEAM MS - help me get back to work here.
FEEDBACK CLUES: The registry (as in another post) says: REGDWORD (3) and
I've done ALL of the updates. BIG CLUE - I also re-installed WINXP (pro) and
noticed it added me (log in name) twice, once as DRIX (primary) and NOW I'm
DRIX.millhouse (my network) with my other programs still listed there but w/o
functionality to them. (sigh again...) PULEEEZE help me kidz - im losing
time - patience - AND the names/numbers to MY CLIENTS!!!!!!! (yikes!)
THANX - I'll be here waiting for your holy words of cure.

4.Moving BCM database to new PC

I have a customer who uses BCM for Outlook 2003 on desktop runing XP. She has
just purchased a notebook running Vista Business. I have set this up,
installed her software tec, which in the case of BCM required installing BCM
despite the incompatibility warning, then an update for BCM and finally an
upgrade to make it compatibile with Vista. However, that is not the prioblem,
I think. I used Vista's Easy Transfer Wizard to extract all her data from the
eesktop, and that seems to have worked fine with the notable exception of the
BCM database which was not copied across. BCM on the notebook has a small and
empty database. I have tried to copy the BCM database files from the desktop
into the notebook's loaction, having copied and renamed the originals on the
notebook, but BCM on the notebook only recognises the notebook's files as a
possible database source regardless of the file names. I presume that each
database is PC name specific and that the notebook BCM will only access
database files created on it and named (internally) accordingly. I tried
export from the desktop which got all the contacts but not the accounts. I
tried a backup but that would not import into the notebook (wrong PC name I
guess). She is going to abandon the desktop, probably already could in fact,
so, when taht happens, if I rename the computer name on the notebook to that
of the desktop, will the notebook's BCM then recognise the files copied from
the desktop? Or, is there another way to move the database from one PC to
another

5.Opening old BCM database on new computer

I too crashed my system, got the data bask, and now want my (v large)
business contacts data back. I have located the data file (*mdf) but the
wizard will not recongnise a *.mdf file. How do I do this?
