  • 1. Cant connect using out look from a remote office to Exchange server??
Does anyone know? I have a remote site that is connecting to the HQ exchange server and now for some strange reason it can connect although I am convinced that I have connection to the outside world because the internet is o.k. but I just can figure out why I cant connect to the exchange server. Any Ideas? Thanks
  • 2. Remote access with BCM v3
Hello, I am currenlty using BCM v2 on a peer to peer network. Will BCM v3 offer remote access, ie from another office? If this will be possible with v3, will i need to buy a server to do it? Thank you, -Sergio
  • 3. Only One Report Before Crash
I have recently installed v2 of OLw/BCM. Forgetting the numerous shortcomings of using this for tracking service-oriented opportunities, the tool works okay for me until I try to view reports. I can view the first reports fine, but when I close that and try to view another, OL has to shutdown. This is everytime, regardless of the report I am viewing. Can anyone offer a suggestion? I have read several threads regarding removing .NET Framework 2.0. I have that loaded, but what will removing it do? If it is not need, why is it included? would Framework 3.0 cause the same problems? Thanks in advance.
  • 4. Can I import a Note to Contacts or Accounts
I used an online survey site to send out a survey to selected BCM 2003 Contacts and Accounts. I wanted to track responses etc., so I sent this from the online site, not from BCM. But I do want to log the fact that I sent out this survey in Biz History. How can I import a .xls or .csv file with, say the Name, email addie but get it to be a Note as opposed to filling a Contact field?
  • 5. Edit "opportunity" "type" liss
Wedeliver "projects" not discrete items. I'd like to edit the "type" list to make if more meaningful. Want to make it project types - "lighting upgrades", "controls", "air flow", "consulting", etc. Naturally these are all "one-of" pricing, but I can deal with that separately. Moving BCM 2007 Database to a SQL 2005 Server

Postby jb » Fri, 28 Aug 2009 23:32:26 GMT

One of our users has been testing BCM and we now want others to start
using it, they have just been using a local database but now I want to
move it to SQL Server. I thought I could just backup the database and
restore it on the server using the BCM Database admin tool. I first
created a new database on the server with the admin tool then backed
up his local database and restored this onto the server.
This seemed to work however although user1 was still the dbo of the
database he could not access the database but users that I shared the
database to could access it just not the dbo. In Studio Manager when I
right clicked on the database and click properties under database it
had the owner listed as administrator. Administrator is the user I ran
the admin tool as. Is this owner different from the dbo? I even tried
using the command sp_changedbowner to make sure the dbo is set
correctly and it now shows in Studio Manager as user1 instead of
administrator but the user still cannot access the db.
If I try and connect using sqlcmd -E -S 'servername'\'instance','port
no'
I get the following error:
C:\>sqlcmd -E -S 'servername'\'instance','port no'
Msg 18456, Level 14, State 1, Server 'servername, Line 1
Login failed for user 'domain\user1'.
I have read that instead of restoring the database I could just export
the data then the dbo would be administrator. However I think I will
then have a problem where user1 will no longer be able to create new
fields in BCM which they need to be able to do.
Any help much appreciated.

Just found out that if I detach the database when I Attach I can chose
who the owner is. I have select the user I want to be the owner and
now it all seems happy.

OK still have one small problem, although the dbo can access the db,
we can not assign any tasks to him, anything he created just has blank
in the assigned to box. It seems like he needs to have the database
shared for his user but as he is the dbo he can't be a shared user.

1.Moving BCM Database to new SQL 2005 Server

I have installed SBS Server 2003 Premium which has MS SQL 2005. Using the
BCM toolkit for Outlook 2007 I created new database. The client Outlook 2007
can access the empty database fine. If I add a contact it appears fine.

I then used the same utility to backup the database on the old server, move
the backup to the new server and then again using the tool did a restore.
The restore completed successfully. I can actually browse the database using
the "SQL Server Manager" and can see the restored contacts. When I access
the BCM from the client Outlook 2007 I do not see any of the contacts. I
have again used the tool to share the database and find the user in the list.
I can't seem to access the old contacts.

Any suggestions?

2.Data loss in BCM 2007 with shared SQL 2005 database

A client is trying to use BCM 2007. The database is on their SBS 2003 Server,
running SQL 2005 WorkGroup Edition. Right now, there are really just two
users on the LAN. The main user is doing testing and reports a problem with
losing newly saved information. Her description is below. Does any of this
ring a bell with anyone?

Thanks in advance

=========================

"So what it is doing is losing newly saved information. I noticed it first
when I would change what account a business contact was linked to. I would
save and it would think for a minute and complete the save. However, when I
went to see if it linked it to the new account it had done nothing. It is
progressively getting worse. I am now noticing it in almost every area. I
have also seen it do the exact same thing to accounts and business contacts
when I: linked an email, added information to comments, changed a spelling
typo, changed or added a category, etc. Every time when I went to try it
again it would eventually work correctly, but sometimes it is on the second
try and other times it takes 3 of 4 times. So far I haven noticed it
completely loosing accounts or contacts, but there is so many I not sure if
I would notice one gone. It all seems to be when things are being edited.

Also very often when I have generated a list that I am editing items from
the list will disappear and it will say nothing to display. An example is if
I am in business contacts and have it arranged by categories and I open and
change something in a contact, when I save it will bring me back to the
original list but when I try to scroll to the next one the list disappears.
To scroll I have tried to use my mouse, the scroll bar, and the arrows on the
scroll bar. Nothing seems to make a difference. I have even tried to click on
the list when I returned, thinking it trying to move me to a different area
but it also didn help. I have to go to the accounts list and then back to
the business contacts list to make it work. Sometimes my list will be the
same, sometimes it is not. It seems to me the problems could be related
because I am always editing when it goes crazy. But on the other hand, no one
but John has been using CRM other than me editing, and he isn using it that
much. I did ask him and he has not encountered the same problems. Sorry to
give you such a tedious problem but I just scared it may cause big problems
when everyone starts to use it. Please let me know if you need any more
clarification or if I can help because I understand that issues like this
aren always easy to find the source of."
