  • 1. Has anyone tried hosting BCM via WTS?
I'd like to share beyond the LAN, and MSFT won't support BCM over dial up/VPN/WAN, but I wondered if anyone has actually tried this. This could be only a business case for promoting CRM 3.0 and not a real tech issue, esp. if I have to upgrade to SQL Server for more than 5 user connections. The spin says BCM is great for businesses of 25 users or less, doesn't mention 5 connection limit right there which it should as this is MISLEADING, BILL. Susan
  • 2. When will MS Outlook Contacts be the Same DB as BCM?
I would like to have just one database, not two because I use a Palm Pilot and the current product architecture doesn't make sense to me.
  • 3. Problem Importing Business Contact History Items
I've just built a new computer and transfered my Outlook BCM over to the new machine. I upgraded BCM and then imported my BCM data, but I don't get the History Items for any of the Business Contacts. Can anyone hel? -- Van G
  • 4. Is there a connection limit to shared BCM? Is there a user limit to the DB backend?
Configuring to share to staff and wondered about the user and connection limits this thing might have. Also has anyone connected to BCM via WTS/Remote Desktop? Thanks, Susan

Outlook BCM 2007 - Create from existing company??

[cross post from general questions]

Sorry, I didn't realize that there was actually a BCM section and so posted
this question original in Outlook General.

I was just wondering if there is a way to create a contact from an
existing company in the Outlook 2007 Business Contact Manager. Outlook 2003
BCM had it and it was great time saver. Adding all of my business cards from
trips now is almost unbearable as I have to enter all of the information
manually each and every time.

Any replacements for this? Is it just really hidden or just a missing feature?

Thanks for any advice.

Are you talking about creating a new Business Contact from an Account record?
I've been able to accomplish this by clicking on the Add button down in the
Business Contacts section, then clicking the New button from the window that
pops up. There it creates a new Business Contact record that is linked to the
Account record and has the business name, phone number, address, website,
assigned to, and contact rating already filled in that was brought over from
the Account record.

Is this what you mean?

2.existing BCM 2003 & trial BCM 2007

I probably have a basic question, but still need to know the answer:

I have two users on my laptop. User #1 and user #2 are currently using 2003
BCM. I am about to download the free trial of Office 2007 primarily to check
out BCM 2007 for user #1. However, I see a note warning current BCM 2003
users that they will need to uninstall BCM 2003 and this has me
worried...both for user #1's existing BCM data but especially for user #2's
existing BCM data. If I go through with this, can someone assure me not to
worry and/or give me the solution? Can user #1 try out 2007 and user #2 still
use 2003? And if I chicken out, can user #1 go back to 2003 without issue?
Thanks for your help.

3.Create New Contact from Same Company in BCM?

I am a recent newcomer to Outlook 2007 and Business Contact Manager (BCM).

While working with my "Contacts" I am able to create a new contact from the
same company as one of my exisiting contacts. This is simply done by
selecting the existing Contact, and then selecting "Actions", followed by
"New contact from same company".

I can't figure out how to do the same thing within BCM. Any suggestions?

4.Can Outlook 2007 with BCM be installed over existing Outlook 2

Luther is right. I think you may need to uninstall your Outlook first.

You won't lose anything by uninstalling the standard Outlook and installing
the Outlook from your Outlook with BCM.

That being said... I like surprises. If you could install BCM without
removing the original "standard" Outlook, please reply here and let me know.

5.how to map existing bcm fields to user created fields in the form

i would like to know how to link existing (default) fields in business
contact manager to new user created fields in the form editor. to help
explain what it is that i am trying to do.........i want to create a form
that has only the fields on it that i want to work with which will include
newly created data fields as well as already existing fields eg name,
address, email etc so that the form is not cluttered with many other default
fields that I never use. I would also like to know how to put paragraphs of
text onto the newly created form in the form editor. or if it is even
possible.

thanks in advance
