  • 1. Email Auto-linking and Automatically Creating Contacts
I am using Outlook 2007 with BCM and when inside an email if I hit "link to record" all of the emails addresses contained in the email are listed as "link to" choices. Those that are in my Business Contact List are checked by default and those that are not are not checked. If I check those contact records for them will be created automatically. How can I get this same functionality when using auto- linking? I have a mailbox with approx 3000 emails in it and want to have auto-linking scan the box and attach the emails to anyone in the address fields. If the contact is already there it will get attached to that name and if not a new record will be created and the email attached to it. (The reason I want to do this is to capture all of the contacts. I can then scan through the contact list and see who has an email address only and enter the rest of the contact information which I can most likely get from the body of the email that was attached to the contact - and used to create the contact record) Right now the only way I figured to do this is one-by-one using the and using the "link to record". Does anyone know of an easier way? A second question is - Does anyone know how to change the default settings of the "link to" button. I would like it to default to placing a check box next to all of the entries whether or not they are in my Business Contact List.
  • 2. Business Contact Manager DB Won't Start
Recently I've had some real issues with the Business Contact Manager in Outlook. When I start up Outlook, I get the following error: Business Contact Manager for Outlook could not connect to the shared Database. Do you want to work off line? If I select Yes, I'm presented with another message box: Cannot start Business Contact Manager because the SQL server service (the Business Contact Manager database service) is not running. Start the service then restart Outlook. For more information, click Help. So, I go into the services and try to manually start the SQL service, I get the following error: Could not start the SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) service on local computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified. If I go into the SQL server configuration manager and start that DB, I get the following error: The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log or other applicable error logs for details. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
  • 3. Activity Series
How do I schedule a series of activities once a contract is signed? In ACT it is called Activity Series & in GoldMine it is called Automated Process. I want to be able to set a series of about 100 tasks/calls that are assigned to certain users due by a certain date prior to a specified date. Is that possible in BCM?
  • 4. Install error with Outlook 2003 BCM on Vista
Hi I am trying to install Outlook 2003 BCM and have encountered problems. --Vista Business (32) --Outlook 2003 installed and running succesfully for several months. Tried installing BCM from Office CD-ROM --Warning of compatability issues -- refered to MS site for SP4 Tried installing BCM SP4 --told that it could not install upgrade because of no existing installation. Installed BCM from Office CD-ROM and ignored compatability warning. Tried installing BCM SP4. --Seemed OK but gave install program gave error message on completion... "Setup failed to install Microsoft Office 2003 with Business Contact Manager SP4. See C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Temp\MBSsetuptmp597A.log for more detail." Opened this file but the content was beyond my comprehension. However, near the end of the file I did notice this text: "MSI (s) (80:CC) [14:01:47:638]: Product: Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components -- Installation operation completed successfully." Though the installation does not seem to have been successfull. Opening Outlook showed no signs of BCM. Thanks for any help, -Dazza PS I can send the log file.
  • 5. BCM 2007 & SQL Server
Can anybody point me please to the documentation about how to host a BCM database on a server without outlook in order to have multiple users? Also I would like to know if I can use BCM with SQL Server Standard or Enterprise instead of express.

Opened BCM this AM - history for each contact linked to inbox

Postby U3R1 » Fri, 07 Jan 2005 05:47:08 GMT

Hello. I have been using BCM since late november and was quite happy with it
until today.

This is the first time this has happened. I opened Outlook this morning ,
went to my business contacts, opened a current client and discovered that all
my notes, journal entries etc. have all disappeared and my entire outlook
inbox (i.e. all messages in the inbox) is now part of the individual history
for that contact. In other words, when I look at the history, I see my entire
inbox for today, yesterdays and back to the beginning.

Same thing for every other contact (I have 421 business contacts in my
current database). All opportunities, notes, journal entries have
disapeared. I hope someone can help otherwise I have just lost 15 days of
hard work updating my client database, linking thousands of e-mails etc. in
BCM! Thanks - and boy, is this scary! I do have a database backup that I
created just before Christmas that I can use if necessary.

BCM sometimes has what's known as a "forms cache" problem. Clearing the
cache usually fixes it. Choose Tools | Options | Other | Advanced Options |
Custom Forms, then click Manage Forms, then Clear Cache. If simply clearing
the cache doesn't fix the issue, try the other steps detailed at
 http://www.**--****.com/ ;en-us;836558

The bulk of the forms cache issues in Outlook 2003 are fixed in Service Pack
1, so you should also install Office 2003 Service Pack 1 as well as BCM SP1.

Just clear your forms cache.

Tools, Options. Other.
Advanced Options
Custom Forms
Manage Forms
Clear Cache.

It is a relatively common problem iwth BCM.

Thanks to both Sue and Patricia - you are an excellent resource on this
forum. I should tell you that I did clear my cache before posting my message
and this did not solve the problem. I did look at the other steps that Sue
suggested below - but this did not help. However, I finally ran "detect and
repair" and now everything is back. Thanks very much for your help.
