I desperately trying to move my BCM 2003 from my old laptop to a new laptop. The BCM on the old laptop no longer has the BUSINESS TOOLS link on the menu. I tried copying the MDF files over to the BCM folder in the APPS DATA folder in the user profile folder but it says that the MDF is of a newer version. I have applied all the patches, including the SBA patch. There may be a work around! I also noticed that I have a new instance of SQL on the called SQL EXPRESS. When I setup my profile, I can connect to the new instance called [MACHINENAME]\SQLEXPRESS, and actually link to the new version of the MDF. However, when I restart or open the PROFILE, it wants to view the previous MDF/profile. Is there a registry entry or a setting somewhere that I can tell BCM to look for the new instance and use the proper MDF? In this way, I won't have to every battle exporting the database from my old laptop, whose BCM is kindly broken. I would really appreciate the help.... Mui mui mui thanks in advance.

Here's the sitch! I have obtained the names of the members of certain trade associations who are great propects for what I sell/market. But the doc (s) are siimply saved in Word. How then.......do I get these into my Outlook files so that I can, in turn, select and send the ones to whom I want a mailing house to send my mailers/pieces etc.? Try microsoft.public.outlook. Bcm doesn't affect the content of emails. - 4. BCM issue:
BCM has encountered a problem and needs to close. Event Type: bcm P1: mapi P2: type initialization exception I have tried to remove BCM from the remove programs list and I am unable to do so. I have tried to remove using the BCM disk and I am unable to. I eve tried to disable BCM in the regedit window by changing type from a 2 to a 3. When I select a contact from within Business Contacts in Busines Contact Manager a message in the center of a blank screen comes up stating "Business Contact Manager was unable to initialize this form" under the General tab. The Details tab still shows complete information for each contact. I have not been able to figure out how to fix this issue. Thus far I have re-installed the Business Contact Manager Update as a possible solution. I am concerned about uninstalling and losing my contact data. Any help in resolving the lost form issue and fixing this would be appreciated. Also, help with backup of the client data. Thanks. -- HSolomon

I'm not quite sure I understand what's going on, but I do know that Outlook profiles are stored in the Registry using a private Outlook binary format, so I don't think you can edit them to change an instance name.

An Addendum - 10 minutes later) I just went into the DATA FILE MANAGEMENT setting on OLK (outlook) and added BCM. Like before - it installs it but there is NO TOOLBAR so I cannot restore - move - or add contact to my old BCM contact database. (from a previous version of outlook). SO - my problems are reduced to ADDING THE BCM TOOLBAR to the top of my OUTLOOK 2003 window. In increasingly desperate attempts to get it to function correctly, I read and did most of what was suggested here in this forum. I put in CD ONE to put in OUTLOOK, put in CD 2 to added BCM (and accounting) and after several attempts of install and un-install and re-install I got it to work - BUT with NO TOOLBAR. sigh... 2 days full of frustrating hours I have NO BCM, NO TOOLBAR and NO MORE CLUES as to what to do. 4.BCM-V2 (Outlook 2003 BCM SP3) TO BCM-V3 (Outlook 2007) Migration
I've got a two backups from my BCM-V2 SP3 installation : A) Completed Export to BCM (From Outlook 2003) B) Database Backup From MSSQL 2003 (Express Ed, or Whatever) I Did a clean install (on Another WorkStation) of Office 2007, then install Outlook BCM-V3 (Witch install MSSQL Express Ed 2005, and creates an empty database) I've follow two differents steps to try to make the migration : A) Import BCM File (From my previous exported BCM (Outlook 2003)). ERROR : Something like "Outlook can't make the last action", and nothing append, another thing is that, I must kill outlook process to get rid of that pop-up (Cancel and BACK buttons doesn't work) B) Restore Database into MSSQL Express 2005: It seams that this last step is the right one, but, when the process is in the middle of the migration, it stops, and shows a pop-up with something like "You're not allowed to restore database, plese contact the owner (my self) of the database, before restore" (This is not the exactly msg, but the meaning is the same) My last chance, is to backup database, with password, and try to restore again, and see what append. No other clue for me, any help ?? Thxs, (Excuse my bad english))
5.BCM Admin Backup + Restore Failed....
Hello.... I have a BCM 2007 database running locally on a SQL 2005 Express instance (MSSMLBIZ). My goal is to move this database to a MSSQL 2005 Express Instance (MSSMLBIZ) installed on a server rather than running locally. I went through the following process... 1. Using the BCM Admin - Backed up the DB to an .sbb file on the client machine 2. Using the BCM Admin - Created a new BCM database on the server. 3. Using the BCM Admin - Restored the backup to the database on the server. 4. Using the BCM Admin - Shared the BCM database on the server, recorded the ugly connection info from the subsequent instruction screen in the admin tool.(server\MSSMLBIZ,1121) 5. On the client machine, connected to the new server BCM database. However, upon examination, I only had 46 contacts rather than the 251 that I expected. I figured I would call it a night and connect back to the local database at this point. Yikes.... I could no longer see any valid BCM databases on the local machine. I can connect to that database fine via SQL Management and it has all 251 databases but Outlook BCM does not list that database when I specify the local machine anymore. So, by following a fairly straightforward and non-destructive process (I thought), I now have no data for BCM. I eventually 'tricked' BCM to connect to the old database by telling Outlook BCM to create a new database and then I replaced the .mdf and .ldf files in SQL while the service was off. Now, I don't expect that was the best way to do this, but alas, I had no other options. Can anyone shed some guidance on how to... 1. Migrate a SQL Express database from a local machine to a server? 2. If a perfectly valid BCM database is sitting on a server in the MSSMLBIZ instance, why doesn't outlook recognize it? Is there a toggle somewhere that turns these on and off? I would *love* to get any sort of feedback on these topics to help understand how to get these lovely BCM databases working like standard SQL databases in *any* way possible. :-) :-) thank you.... j
