  • 1. customizing columns in Opportunities
From BCM home, I click on Opportunities under Start a Task. I then go in and Customize Current View, in order to add some columns and delete others. This includes specifying the column width. I got looking exactly like I wanted it, yet when I close out BCM and go back to Opportunities, my changes are gone. How can I lock in those changes permanently? Thanks -- Randy Bratton
  • 2. How can I batch remove all emails NOT associated with a business contact?
I have a folder full of emails. I want to be able to remove any email in this folder that is not related to a business contact in BCM. I want to search in the BODY of the email and also the TO field for email addresses belonging to a contact and if there is no contact with that email address, for it to delete the email. I heard about 'rules' but not sure if they work with business contacts. What sort of rule do I need? I know nothign abour rules :( -Frankie
  • 3. Missing or hidden contacts
I'm using Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager on a Windows XP home edition desktop machine. I recently noticed one of my contacts on my personal (non-BCM) contact list was missing in phone list view when I looked for it. I scrolled up and down my contact list and numerous contacts were not there. I entered one of the contact names in the search box and it did not find it. I then clicked on the option to search "all contact items" and my contact appeared on the search screen as a business card. In playing around with it it appears several of my contacts are not appearing in phone list view but do appear in all the other views. Any idea what is causing this and how do I get all contacts to show on the phone list? -- Jake
  • 4. rating leads
I am still learning BCM. I am a REaltor and I have leads come in via email or phone on listings. I want to enter them in BCM (I haven't been using the Leads toggle) and get them on a schedule to receive information from me. Lastly, I'd like to pull a report of these leads. I see that I can pull a report of Leads by Rating, but i have no idea how to rate m leads. Thanks
  • 5. BCM 2007 error after upgrades
Last night, I upgraded the following: * Microsoft Expression Blend V2 SP1 * .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 * VS2008 SP1 * Silverlight Tools fo VS2008 SP1 This morning, when I started Outlook 2007 (with BCM), the Windows Installer poped up. The title bar reads "Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 SP1" and the message reads " Please wait while Windows configures Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 SP1". That dialog is followed by another saying: "Insert the "Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 SP1" disk and click OK". The "Use source" box just hsa a "1" in it. If I click the Browse button, I see that it's looking for MSSMLBIZ.msi. I don't have that disk. I installed SP1 from the download (BCM2007SP1-KB941652-FullFile-ENU.exe). I extracted the contents of that download, but it does not contain the MSI. If I cancel out of the dialog, I get: "Error 1706.No valid source could be found for product Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 SP1. The Windows installer cannot continue." When I click OK, Outlook starts and everything seems normal, including BCM. If I click on BCM Home, I get the same error, but then it loads fine. I can see my Accounts, Business Contacts, etc. So far, it doesn't appear that the error effects any functionality, but I'd still like to get rid of it. Henri Fournier

I have been working on this for some time, now. The failure point has moved
from SQL to msiexec (progress, I think?!). Now, the logfile reports
<MainEngineThread is returning 1605>.

Any thoughts? All suggestions and work-arounds are appreciated.

Please post the entire log file, and not as an attachment. Let's see where
it's stopping in reality.

I probably can make it work for you remotely, but we charge for that
service.

The following comprises the complete log file. If I am interpreting this
correctly, the installer is attempting to find a previously installed GUID.
Since the present number for Outlook 2007 differs from that of my prior 2003
installation (or a file is corrupted), it cannot uninstall potentially
conflicting files; so, the program is forced to terminate.

Let me know what you think. If a little guidance will get this feature
running, then I shall be grateful for your input. If it proves more
difficult, then we should discuss what it would take to complete the
recovery. --Thank you for your comments and insights.

he mysteries of msiexec....

It appears that the main setup program launched a second setup package
(sql server? accounting connectivity? BCM itself?) which did not log
any errors itself but failed, and the main setup program then stopped
when it got the failure code.

This analysis is based entirely on the abscene of any useful (1605?)
information in the log and my own experience with msiexec.

I would remove all pertinent software (including the office interop
assemblies, which gave me grief last month; the sql 2005 small business
instance--the sql uninstall will ask if you want to remove this
instance) and start from scratch.

Looks like that log is incomplete.

There are other logs. Windows Installer cleanup tool may help to clean up
this mess. Or perhaps restoring the LSI for the previous version of office.

I posted a technique how to install the SQL server instance in case like
this before. I think I have a copy of that article on my site.

Thank you for your reply. You are correct, there are other logs; however,
the posting above is the complete text of the last log created. Moreover,
all of the previous logs indicate a successful installation and termination
of the installer.

The data seem to suggest that the sought GUID is different from the one
actually installed. If this is true, then one must ask, how can I break-out
of this seemingly intractable situation? All attempts to install,
re-install, uninstall and repair have produced an error message showing a
failed installation.

Does anyone know how to force the unsinstall? Are there specfic files that
one could remove manually that would allow the un-installation to succeed?

There is a tool called Windows Install Cleanup

 http://www.**--****.com/
 http://www.**--****.com/

The issue I foresee is fixing the .NET framework issues after using the
cleanup tool.

Thanks. I will try the tool. It should help with at least part of the
problem.

I also think you are right about the .net situation. I have encountered one
or two other things that suggest not all is well in the .net Framework.

Yeah we suggest to run .NET Repair usually. It is in the add/remove
programs, highlight .Net framework, click change, click repair. I doubt that
will fix the whole situation though.

1.B2TR Outlook with BCM -- BCM will not run, uninstall, or repair

I was running Outlook with BCM 2007 without problems. I installed the TR and
ran into trouble with the BCM TR. Now, I have B2TR Outlook installed and
some form of BCM on my system. The uninstaller for Beta does not recognize
the BCM version. Outlook B2TR issues an error at startup saying that the BCM
version is incompatible. The uninstaller for B2TR BCM also fails. BCM B2TR
is in a strange state. BCM will not run, will not uninstall, will not
reinstall, and will not repair.

What can I do to get this feature running?

2.(revised) INSTALL BCM - uninstall BCM - install BCM - still no BCM

An Addendum - 10 minutes later)
I just went into the DATA FILE MANAGEMENT setting on OLK (outlook) and added
BCM. Like before - it installs it but there is NO TOOLBAR so I cannot
restore - move - or add contact to my old BCM contact database. (from a
previous version of outlook). SO - my problems are reduced to ADDING THE BCM
TOOLBAR to the top of my OUTLOOK 2003 window.
I have the OUTLOOK CONNECTOR showing but no BCM. thanx again - in advance -

3.INSTALL BCM - uninstall BCM - install BCM - still no BCM

HI - whew - please help me get my OUTLOOK w/bcm to show my BC's again.

I excitedly have the fat 2 disk set of OFFICE SBM 2006. It works but for the
BCM (the second most important part after email). In increasingly desperate
attempts to get it to function correctly, I read and did most of what was
suggested here in this forum. I put in CD ONE to put in OUTLOOK, put in CD 2
to added BCM (and accounting) and after several attempts of install and
un-install and re-install I got it to work - BUT with NO TOOLBAR. sigh... 2
days full of frustrating hours I have NO BCM, NO TOOLBAR and NO MORE CLUES as
to what to do.

PULEEEEZE TEAM MS - help me get back to work here.
FEEDBACK CLUES: The registry (as in another post) says: REGDWORD (3) and
I've done ALL of the updates. BIG CLUE - I also re-installed WINXP (pro) and
noticed it added me (log in name) twice, once as DRIX (primary) and NOW I'm
DRIX.millhouse (my network) with my other programs still listed there but w/o
functionality to them. (sigh again...) PULEEEZE help me kidz - im losing
time - patience - AND the names/numbers to MY CLIENTS!!!!!!! (yikes!)
THANX - I'll be here waiting for your holy words of cure.

4.Importing BCM 2003 backup in another language in B2TR and Outlook 2007 with BCM

I once downloaded the whole Office 2007.
With BCM it went completely wrong.
It as not possible to import the backup of BCM 2003 into Outlook 2007,
'Sorry, wrong language' the error message was. (BCM 2007 did not
convert my BCM 2003 database automatically). And so I had to end Office
2007, reinstall Outlook 2003 and BCM 2003, which took about an hour.
Now there is the Technical Refresh. Will I now be able to import the
Dutch BCM 2003 backup? Or will the conversion of BCM 2003 to BCM 2007
succeed during installation? Is there anyone having positive
experiences?

5.Install/Uninstall Purgatory BCM B2TR

I had Office 2007 with BCM running well. I installed B2TR. Outlook and
everything else installed and ran fine. For some reason the BCM install
failed. I then tried to uninstall BCM for Outlook 2007 (not the B2TR) and
the uninstall failed. I then tried to reinstall BCM for Outlook 2007. It
failed.

I am completely stuck. BCM does not run, and I can neither uninstall the
current cofiguration nor repair it. The B2TR will not install, either.

...very grateful for suggestions...
