Need to migrate BCM 2003 data into BCM 2007

  • 1. Recovering Data From BCM 2007
Frankly, I've had it with BCM... this is the third time it has mysteriously stopped working. My set up is not all that complicated and I do nothing particularly fancy. This time it just quit and I've spent DAYS on trying to get it working. The program shows up in Control Panel (SP2)... but it just won't open. Attempts to uninstall and reinstall are fruitless and I've tried every suggestion I've found. The installation Wizard just quits. Or I'll get to the point of selecting a new or existing DB and the program freezes when I try to either. The DB file(s) of contacts does, in fact exist--I can find it using Explorer. I want my data... I'd be thrilled to be able to import it into an Outlook and use it as a simple contact file... or even get it open as a spreadsheet... I don't care if I ever see BCM again. Any suggestions will be appreciated... please not the standard ones because I'm sure I've tried all of those -- some more than once.
  • 2. BCMAdmin and Danish BCM
Hi, I'm trying to create a shared BCM database on my SBS2008 server. I use BCMAdmin to create the database on the server, this works fine. I installed BCM on Outlook 2007 which also ran without any problems. When I try to connect to the database SBS2008\MSSQLSERVER,1433 I get an errormessage saying that there is no BCM database available on the server. From browsing various forums I think that the error means that my BCM database is not in the same language as my Client? What do I do to resolve this?
  • 3. Why can I see other users tasks in my task list
Hi there, My company are using BCM on Outlook 2007 and are really getting used to its functionality. We are using it for contact management, opportunities, projects etc. There are several users in our company and at present they are finding that they can other people's tasks which have been created in a project. For example I have created a project to retarget old opportunities and have set up lots of tasks, but they are populating in all the user's task lists as wel as mine! Is there a way to stop this?!!!
  • 4. BCM and Outlook problem ( BCM fails to start)
Here is the scenario. After starting outlook, I click on BCM and the drop-down comes up, I select accounts and Outlook unloads. I can click on BCM then on the dropdown I select BCM home. That does come up but the default goes to sales. Then I click on home and a message appears that says "Business Contact Manager for Outlook could not complete your last action or actions. Please try again" I click on OK and the action is completed. Then I can click on accounts. The same message as above appears and when i click O.K. the accounts are there. after working in "accounts" if I click on anything else "mail, calendar or notes" Outlook unloads again.. Here is what I have tried. I have gone to the services and made sure all of the SQL services were started. Some were in manual and I changed them to automatic. I the looked at the event log and I show an error. The source is "MSSQLServerADHelper ". Under description it says " "0" is an invalid number of start up parameters. This service takes two start up parameters." I am using XP and using outlook 2007 with sp2 with BCM version 3.00.8619.01 I have searched numerous sites that have got me this far, but I am stuck. Do I have to uninstall BCM and reinstall.

Need to migrate BCM 2003 data into BCM 2007

Postby QXJpamFuYQ » Fri, 01 Jun 2007 05:25:00 GMT

When I try to use the .bcm file to import old data into BCM 2007, I get an
error message about fields not matching. The alternative would be to use
.csv export, but that moves only contacts and accounts, but not the rest of
the data (email tracking etc.) and this is unacceptable for our clients. We
are considering upgrade to BCM 2007 to be able to use SQL back end and
therefore IT department having more control over backups and data. Currently
this is poorly handled by the user. Plus, when that user is not at the
office, nobody can access the shared database. Using a separate back end
somewhere on the server would solve our problem, but it is not going to work
unless we can move all of the previous data from BCM 2003 into BCM 2007.

Did anyone have any experience with this?

Thank you in advance for the help.

Arijana

Do not import the file. Goto create/select database and select your current
database (after you made a backup)

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunatelly we cannot use the existing
database. The current database is on the workstation and IT has no control
over backups. Also, other users cannot connect if the workstation is off
line. We wanted to migrate to BCM 2007 to be able to have the database on
SQL Server and have control over backups.

I spent days online searching for solutions, but came up with nothing. I'm
hoping someone else had a similar problem and was able to find a solution.

Are you saying that there is no way you can even get a copy of the database
to used?

I can get a copy of the database, but what am I supposed to do with it when I
copy it? I'm not really sure what you are asking. We are trying to have a
client/server configuration which BCM2003 does not support. The purpose for
the client/server configuration is the control of backups and user access.
We tried to install BCM 2003 on a server which already has a full version
SQL2000 installed, but it didn't work. BCM2003 seems to only work if
installed on a workstation that does not have an instance of SQL already
installed. BCM2007 supports the client/server configuration but it rejects
data created by BCM2003. Without being able to migrate the data, we cannot
upgrade to 2007.

did not realize that you wanted to stay working in a client/server
situation. I was suggesting the copy because you could have Outlook 2007
automatically convert 2003 db to 2007. I don't know about the client server
situation.

ow would I convert 2003 BCM database into 2007? When I try to import 2003
data export into 2007 I get an error about the fields not matching between
the two versions and it never runs. Is there any other way to do this?

on't try to import. Just go into BCM toolbar - Database tools, create or
select database and then navigate to where the 2003 database is and Outlook
will upgrade it to 2007 (might want to keep copy of 2003 database just in
case you want to go back)

Hi Arijana,
Can you please send the error message and the log file about not matching
fields?
I will try to identify the issue.
Thanks

1.Migrate BCM 2003 data to BCM 2007

I recently purchased Office 2007 with BCM. I have an extensive BCM database
in the 2003 version. I need to move the 2003 database into the 2007 database.
I have tried changing the database using osql from a command prompt (like the
old method for 2003) but apparently, BCM 2007 doesn't use the same SQL
connection methodology. Also, I assume that the schema is different and thus
an upgrade would be required to transfer the data.

Does anyone know of a method of moving this data over from the old BCM? (The
import function doesn't support mdf/ldf files.)

2.Migrating BCM 2003 to BCM 2007

How do you convert a BCM 2003 database to the 2007 version?
I am using the same SQL database engine or server and can't see the 2003
version of the databse from BCM 2007.

3.Import Data from 2003 BCM to 2007 BCM (on Windows 7)

We have a new laptop (Win7 Pro 64 bit) and Office 2007 Pro, with regional
settings for Canada. The old machine is running XP Pro (sp3) and Office 2003
Pro, again with regional settings for Canada. Exporting and then importing
from version 2003 to version 2007 worked fine for Outlook. When we import the
BCM data into BCM 2007 the date format is changed from the Canadian default
dd/mm/yyyy to the US format mm/dd/yyyy. Additionally the dates that would be
invalid in the US format (any cdn day read as a us month higher than 12) are
missing. Both OS and Office versions are fully patched current.

I would like to have the BCM history data in the 2007 BCM formatted as CDN
(matching the Regional Settings of the PC) and the information droped
restored.

4.BCM-V2 (Outlook 2003 BCM SP3) TO BCM-V3 (Outlook 2007) Migration

I've got a two backups from my BCM-V2 SP3 installation :
A) Completed Export to BCM (From Outlook 2003)
B) Database Backup From MSSQL 2003 (Express Ed, or Whatever)

I Did a clean install (on Another WorkStation) of Office 2007, then install
Outlook BCM-V3 (Witch install MSSQL Express Ed 2005, and creates an empty
database)

I've follow two differents steps to try to make the migration :
A) Import BCM File (From my previous exported BCM (Outlook 2003)).
ERROR : Something like "Outlook can't make the last action", and nothing
append, another thing is that, I must kill outlook process to get rid of that
pop-up (Cancel and BACK buttons doesn't work)
B) Restore Database into MSSQL Express 2005:
It seams that this last step is the right one, but, when the process is in
the middle of the migration, it stops, and shows a pop-up with something like
"You're not allowed to restore database, plese contact the owner (my self) of
the database, before restore" (This is not the exactly msg, but the meaning
is the same)

My last chance, is to backup database, with password, and try to restore
again, and see what append. No other clue for me, any help ??

Thxs,

(Excuse my bad english))

I'm not trying to mail merge to 200 recepients in my contact list.
I want to automaticly create a document, where it includes contact

This used to be possible before, but I can't seem to find it in 2007 and in
BCM.
I want the document to automaticly be registered under communications - just
