  • 1. Why is ":80" inserted in URLs from links in messages?
I've recently noticed that whenever I click on any URL link in an OE message, the characters :80 are inserted in the URL that's first displayed at the top of the IExplorer screen, immediately before the first single slash. They disappear when the webpage is actually displayed. Should I be worried as well as puzzled? -- Peter
  • 2. When is EHLO used as opposed to HELO, and when is the SIZE cmd sen
Hi, I run an email server for many people, and want to restrict the size of each email message that is allowed to be sent through it. However, I want to be able to tell people *straight away* who try to send an email greater than a certain size through Outlook Express (I have it set at 20MB on my server). I have read that this can be achieved if the email client starts the SMTP session with EHLO instead of HELO, and then uses the SIZE command followed by the total size of the email they are then going to send. This has the advantage of immediately telling them that they are not allowed to send an email of that size, before they have wasted their time sending the entire email to our server, only for it to be bounced back to them. Now, I did a packet capture of a couple of Outlook Express sessions, and I found that Outlook Express actually sends the 'HELO' command instead of 'EHLO', *unless* authentication is turned on (the 'My server requires authentication' checkbox is checked). Is this what is supposed to happen? If so, it appears that the SIZE command can only be used when authentication is used, as this is the only time that 'EHLO' is sent instead of 'HELO'. However, it appears that even when authentication is turned on, the SIZE command isn't sent! Can someone confirm/explain this? Thanks!
  • 3. Identity login
Why does my identity login pop up on the screen at all different times. I am a gamer and when in the middle of the game the login identity for outlook express pops up and slows the game. This did not happen until I got Norton 360 antivirus. I have tried to talk to their support several times but they cannot understand the english language enough to fix this issue.

OE6 - multiple users - multiple e-mail names

Postby Chris » Tue, 23 Aug 2005 01:05:10 GMT

I am just about tearing my hair out - and there's not much to start with!

Problem:

I have set up my new computer - XP Pro - with two users.

My e-mail address is XXXX@XXXXX.COM , but anything that is sent
to @bravomar.demon.co.uk
will reach me - unlimited e-mail addresses, not uncommon.

My partner uses two addresses: XXXX@XXXXX.COM &
 XXXX@XXXXX.COM

I've set up OE6 on my user account with 2 identities which seems to work
OK, but when my partner
logs on to her user account, a separate OE6 fires up and not the one
I've set up on my account. Ie:
there is no reference to the identities I'd set up.

So, when I log on to collect e-mail, all hers downloads in to my user
account and is not accessible when she logs on.

    How do I solve this?

I'm not exactly computer illiterate, but this is really stumping, and
bugging me!

Please help!

Ta muchly!

If you *truly* have 3 e-mail addresses with your ISP between the two of you
and not just aliases for one address, I'd call your ISP and see what's going
on.

Chris, not wise to post your email address in a public newsgroup.
Spammers harvest these groups for their dubious email. You should change
to something like CJ@bravomar.(nospam)demon.co.uk
Somebody who needs to then use it for leigitmate reasons could easily
work it out. But using it as it is would send spam whirling into the
black hole of space and not your inbox!

Use Message Rules to filter your mail where the two addresses are
aliases
for the same mailbox.

E.g., XXXX@XXXXX.COM and XXXX@XXXXX.COM are aliases for one mailbox. In the
Identity associated with XXXX@XXXXX.COM , create a Message Rule stating,
"Where
To contains XXXX@XXXXX.COM , Do not download it from the server and Stop
processing more rules" (The last phrase is important!) and place this
rule
at the very top of the list.

Then create a similar rule for the Identity associated with XXXX@XXXXX.COM
directing any messages addressed to XXXX@XXXXX.COM to not be downloaded from
the
server.

Bruce, they are aliases.
Same setup as my ISP email addy -
 XXXX@XXXXX.COM

(I don't use this email address at all now, and everything goes into a
black hole.)
