I recently upgraded from outlook 2000 to 2002, and noticed a very much slower speed when trying to find emails from a specific sender in 2002 compared to 2000. No, I am not searching freetext. I switched off the IM in the options. I compacted the PST file. Other variables did not change. In outlook 2000 the last emails came first on my screen, but in outlook 2002 it starts at the bottom end of my inbox. Is there a way to "reindex" my PST file so that my messages from a specific sender are found faster, or that it displays the latest messages first? Or should I reimport the PST file into a blanc outlook 2002? please advise Wilbertb

I've exported my outlook contacts to a file on my desktop to use for mail merge, and when I try to set up a new profile in Word (during the mail merge wizard), I keep getting this message: "Unable to obtain list of tables from the data source." How do I set my Outlook Contacts as the source for mail merge to pull files from. I'm so frustrated with this program! BTW, is outlook Contacts stored as "outlook.pst" ? That's the file I exported to my desktop. I don't know if this makes a difference, but my MS Office 2002 is actually on my D drive, not my C drive. And, I used to use Corel WP, so my original contacts folder for mail merge was Corel. How do I direct (through the wizard) "choose contacts folder" to my outlook contacts? Thanks for any help. backup.pst not recognized as valid in Outlook

Postby Jason » Sat, 03 Apr 2004 05:47:38 GMT

I have backed up my e-mails to backup.pst and wiped my
hard drive. I am trying to import the data to Outlook
2002, but I receive the following error: The file
backup.pst is not a Personal Folders File.

The .pst file was created by exported all data from
Outlook to a .pst file. I burned the file to a CD and
copied it to the desktop of my new computer. When I try
an import the file I get the above error.

I'm not sure what to do about this. Anyone have a
suggestion? As you can imagine I would really like to
get my e-mail, contacts, etc back.

backup.pst not recognized as valid in Outlook

Are you trying to connect to the .pst file located on the
CD or have you copied the .pst file to your new hard
drive for use?

If you have not copied the file to your new hard drive
please do so. Also when you burn a file to CD and then
pull it back to your hard drive the file is a Read Only
file. After copying it back to your hard drive you need
to right click on the file and uncheck "Read Only" to
make it writable again.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

Another thing you mightwantto check is to goto the properties of the
backup.pst and then Check what itsays under "Openswith". If that not
Outlook, clickon the Change Button and then if Outlook is oneof the
recommended programs Select itand hten Click on Ok. Else Clcick on theBrowse
button and then point to the file Outlook.Exeand then clcick on Ok. Now
Outlook would be listed as one of the recommended programs. Select that and
then Click on Ok.

Hope this helps !!!

1.Pst Backup not showing available pst's to backup

Hi all. I am using Outlook 2003 sp2 with the pst backup tool. I have it
installed but when I choose backup & options, the box under "backup files" is
blank. It says "no personal folder files are currently open". I have two
.pst's open, they are my archive pst and then the one I use all the time.
What do I need to do to get them to show up in the list?

I have used this before and have noticed that sometimes it works fine and
sometimes it doesn't. It just seems hit or miss as to if it picks up my
.pst's or not.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

3.BCM contact open error "string was not recognized as a valid b

Sat,
I cannot open or even right click the disfunctional contact in BCM. The
contact happens to be me (?!) I do have a copy of the contact I had copied to
the regular contacts folder that works ok. The BCM copy used to work fine. I
did integrate BCM with Accounting 2008 and this is one of the few contacts
that would be affected. I suspect this is the problem.

I could just delete the BCM contact and copy in the regular contact, but I
am concerned that there may be a systematic problem that affects other
contacts or will recur. What do you recommend?

4.BCM contact open error "string was not recognized as a valid boole

Outlook 2007 BCM fails to open one specific contact with the error "string
was not recognized as a valid boolean." This contact has worked properly
before. Other contacts open fine, although I have not tried every contact.
Everything else appears normal. I ran the database defrag/error check and
received no complaints, but nothing was repaired. How do I repair this (and
possibly other) contacts?

5..pst File not valid pst file

I am using outlook 2003 SP3 out of the Office Professional Edition 2003
German Edition.
Outlook worked fine and suddenly after starting Outlook as usual I got the
message: "The file xxx.pst ist not a personal folder file (.pst)"
it is independent if I try to open this file as the personal folder file of
a defined profile or as an aditional folder file in a working profile. This
message appears at all attempts.
Scanpst.exe reports that it is not able to see that this ist a .pst file.
Is there any way to recover the data stored in this .pst file?

Thanks for any assistance
Regards
Bernd
