  • 5. folder and message mgmt
I'm receiving about 150 emails per day on my laptop, most of which need to be kept in one form or another. I am not connected to a server. My inbox (and folders within my inbox) has way too many items and Outlook sometimes locks up. I need an efficient way to store these messages so that I can readily search, sort and retrieve them (i.e. when someone references a prior email during a phone conversation or in a later email). It seems easiest if they're in the inbox, but that's not working because Outlook locks up. Does anyone have a good, efficient, low time use file/email management approach that would enable me to get my inbox down in size while maintaining easy access to and searching of prior messages (sent and received). Thanks folks.

Cannot SEND email in outlook 2002...I can receive, but not SEND/RE

Postby bWFkZGlzb24z » Sun, 01 Nov 2009 05:21:01 GMT

The error I receive is this:
Task 'pop.att.yahoo.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable to
send the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account
properties. The server responded: 530 authentication required - for help go
to http://www.**--****.com/ '

Obviously I have checked the email addresses...in fact, I cannot even send a
test message from myself to myself! My att webmail works fine - so i have
been sending messages that way - but this is exasperating having to use both
the webmail and outlook!! ...and i've used outlook 2002 since 2002, so I have
7 years of business information on this that I do not want to particularly
scrap. I don't know what to do - i've had tons of trouble with Outlook in
the past 2 weeks and not sure what has caused it. HELP!

Use authentication for outgoing mail and use yahoo login for it and change
the outgoing mail port.

# Yahoo! Mail Settings

Yahoo Mail offers standard POP3 access for receiving emails incoming through
your Yahoo mailbox, by using your favorite email client software. To setup
your email client for working with your Yahoo account, you need to select the
POP3 protocol and use the following mail server settings:

      Yahoo Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop.mail.yahoo.com (port 110)

Yahoo Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - smtp.mail.yahoo.com (port 25)

POP Yahoo! Mail Plus email server settings

Yahoo Plus Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (SSL
enabled, port 995)

Yahoo Plus Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (SSL
enabled, port 465, use authentication)

What outgoing SMTP port are you using?

Set Outgoing Mail Port to 587 in Outlook Express, Outlook 2000 and Outlook
2002/2003
To change the outgoing mail port to 587 in Outlook Express and Outlook 2000:
1. Open Outlook Express or Outlook 2000.
2. Click the Tools menu, then click Accounts.
3. Click your e-mail account, then click the Properties button.
4. Click the Advanced tab.
5. In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box, type 587.
6. Click the OK button.
7. Click the Close button.

To change the outgoing mail port to 587 in Outlook2002/2003:
1. Open Outlook 2002 or 2003.
2. Click the Tools menu, then click E-mail Accounts.
3. Click the View or change existing e-mail accounts option, then click the
Next button.
4. Click your e-mail account, then click the Change button.
5. Click the More Settings button.
6. Click the Advanced tab.
7. In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box type 587.
8. Click the OK button.
9. Click the Next button.
10. Click the Finish button.

In addition to changing your outgoing SMTP port, also make sure you check
the box that says to authenticate to your outgoing SMTP server.

1.Outlook 2002 sends/receives, but does not retrieve email

Hello, I'm using Outlook 2002 with all patches and having
some trouble. When I click Send/Receive, I get a very
quick Send/Receive Complete message, but no new email is
downloaded.

I'm working with 5 POP3 accounts and my hotmail account.
I've verified through telnet that there are messages on
the server for me that I haven't seen yet.

I used Thunderbird 0.7 to try as well, and it did
download the new email. (I set the account to leave
messages on the server, though, and I verified that they
are still there.)

So far I have:
Cold booted
Removed & recreated all email accounts in Outlook
Run fixmapi.exe (rebuilds mapi32)
Run scanpst.exe (checks & corrects PST errors)
Uninstalled Outlook 2002, reboot
Reinstalled Outlook, applied all patches, reboot

And I am still seeing this issue. Any help would be
appreciated. Thank you.

2.Outlook 2002 - emails sent offline do not send (appear as saved messages)

When working offline with Outlook 2002 messages that are
sent remain in the outbox as "non-italiced" emails. Given
the email state the emails can't be sent and will not
synch back once outlook is connected again.

If you then open the email and send again the email
appears as an italic email ready to send. On send/recieve
or next connection the message is sent and appears ion the
sent items.

The config is
Windows 2000 SP3
Office 2000
Outlook 2002

3.Outlook 2002 not saving sent emails in sent folder

Hi

My Outlook 2002 is not saving sent emails in the sent folder. I have the
box checked in the Tools/Options/Preferences/E-mail/E-mail Options Save
copies of messages in Sent Items folder. I have played around with this and
other things but can't seem to get the messages I have sent to end up in the
sent folder. Any help out there?

4.I can send e-mails, but cannot receive e-mails in Outlook 2002

I suddenly stopped receiving e-mails(Microsoft Outlook 2002 version), however
I can send them and have been told that people are receiving the messages
from me. When they send me a message however I never receive it. This is
very strange and I have been without incoming mail for two days now and am
going crazy. I have seen the opposite problem posted, but not this one.
Please help.

5.Cannot Send/Receive Manually in Outlook 2002

After an automatic Microsoft update last week, I have been unable to
Send/Receive manually when I click on that menu button. I am using Windows
XP Pro SP3, Office XP Pro 2002 SP3, and Norton Internet Security 2009.

To get around this, I changed my settings in Outlook to automatically send
on exit. I then exit Outlook, see that the messages are being sent, then
reopen Outlook.

I've never experienced this problem before and wondered if a technical
update has caused this. Has anyone else experienced this problem.
