Emails sent from OL2007 to OL2003, Links broken

Postby RXJpY0o » Wed, 07 Oct 2009 23:06:02 GMT

Most of our users are on Outlook 2003. We are slowly giving users Outlook
2007. When an Outlook 2007 user sends a link to a .doc on a network drive to
a Outlook 2003 user, the link turns into plain text.
The email is sent in Rich Text.

What is sent with ol2007, shows as a completely normal hyperlink:
I:\Department\Group\Year\Whatever.doc

What is received on ol2003, not underlined, not clickable, not blue:
<I:\Department\Group\Year\Whatever.doc>

We also tested sending a link as a HTML message, HTML works normal.
On my blackberry, the link is fine.

Outlook 2003 is SP3,
Outlook 2007, two users on SP1 and SP2.

Has anyone seen this issue, or have any ideas on what I could search for?

Do the 2007 users hit <Return> after putting the link in?

I just had them try again, first with just a Return, and then with a space
after the link plus a Return. Neither worked, still no link.

Try specifying it with <...> around it; i.e.,
<I:\Department\Group\Year\Whatever.doc>

If that doesn't work, expand the I drive and use a UNC.
<\\Server\share\Department\Group\Year\Whatever.doc>
Put <...> around it if it includes spaces.

Just tested both.

Just the < >'s around the "I:\...\...\.doc" did not work.

The < >'s around the \\server\share\doc worked. (there are spaces in the
folder names)

Unfortunately using \\server\share links won't be ideal for our end users.
Switching the email type to HTML will probably be the solution.

Thank you for your help. If you come up with any other troubleshooting
steps or solutions, I'll be happy to try them out.

Try a URL: file:///i:\Department\Group\Year\Whatever.doc/

1.OL2007: editing email in Outbook before sending breaks the email

I have Outlook set to *not* send immediately - I do a send/receive all
when I'm ready.

In OL2003, I could open an unsent email in the Outbox, edit it, then
click "Send" and it would automatically go back to the send queue (and
be sent went I hit F9 "Send & Receive All").

In OL2007, if I open an unsent email, the email never gets sent,
unless I manually move it to the Drafts folder, then open it, click
send, then open it again, and click send again. (It always takes two
"sends" to move the edited email from the Drafts folder back to the
Outbox).

Is there any way to get OL2007 to behave more intuitively (ie, more
like OL2003)?

Thanks

2.Send via email links not working OL2007

I have OL 2007 on 2 machines, one an XP Pro laptop and one a new Vista
desktop. On both computers, I can no longer use the "send via email" links
from other programs. When I used OL2003, these links would open a new OL
message with an attachment filled in. Now they do nothing. Programs where
this fails are IE7 (Vista and XP), Photo Gallery (Vista) and Adobe Acrobat
(both).
I have OL2007 checked as the default email client on both machines. I also
am running the trial of OneCare (if that makes any difference--could't find
it blocking anything). Thanks.

3.Broken URL links in Outlook 2003 sent email

When I send long URL Hyperlinks in an email they often don't work when the
recipient clicks on them. I realize that this has someting to do with the way
outlook wraps the text (70-80 characters) and breaks the link onto 2 or 3
lines but how can I prevent this?

4.Outlook Anywhere not working with OL2007 but is with OL2003

As the title says PC's with Outlook 2003 can connect but any PC with OL 2007
is getting:

"Outlook cannot login. Verify you are connected to the network and are using
the proper server and mailbox name. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is
unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action"

The server is a long way away (about 20-23 hops) so I added the registry
entries to increase the RPC timeout but it just takes longer to fail now..

The settings I put in are identical between the working (OL2003)and
non-working PC's(OL2007). A workaround I have found is too configure using
OL2003 then upgrade to 2007 and it continues to work but this is not really
practical for production only for me testing....

Any ideas would be appreciated.

cheers

Help. My trial ended and I removed the 2007 Outlook, reinstalled 2003 Office,

have read in the posts, but no success. Any suggestions?
