Are you copying the PST file back from the external hard to your local hard
drive? If yes, are you placing the file where you have full NTFS control
rights over the PST (e.g. Documents folder would be a good place because you
have full control)? If yes to both, when you try to open the PST file via
Outlook's File > Open > Outlook data file, do you get an error message? If
so what is the text of that message?

1.Saving messages from Outlook Express 6 to an external hard drive

Can you tell me how I can save all of my messages from Outlook Express 6 to
an external hard drive? Do I have to transfer them somehow to a folder and
then do it? I'm not very computer savvy. Thanks so much.

3.Getting .pst files from external hard drive back into Outlook

I had to restore my computer to factory settings because of a virus. I have
Outlook files backed up in my external hard drive (My Book) in the form of:

C\Users\hp\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook (which contains .pst files)

I am having no success in getting these files back into Outlook. The process
I am using is as follows:

- copying the zipped files onto the desktop
- extracting them
- opening Outlook and clicking Import to import a Personal Folder File
- browsing to an extracted .pst file

When I have identified a file to import and click Next, I get a message,
he file C:\Users\Shelley\Desktop\My Book pst files\Outlook.pst is not a
personal folders file.

Any help would be appreciated.

4.Backup PST file to External Hard Drive

Every night I backup my entire "documents and settings" folder and sub
folders to an external hard drive using a backup program called
BounceBack Pro, which backs up in native format (i.e. no compression
scheme is used). The PST file for my Outlook 2003 does not back up.
What do I have to do to make a copy on the external hard drive?

I tried installing the "backup PST" file from Microsoft, but it will
not let me make a backup. When I try to make the backup I get the
error message:
"Cannot copy Outlook: The process cannot access the file because
another process has locked a portion of this file."

I get the same error message if I try to copy the PST file from my c:\
hard drive into the appropriate folder on my e:\ external hard drive.
