I have Outlook 2007 sp1 running on a Vista sp1 system that will only close when the task is ended in the task manager. What would be causing this and what is the solution?

My Outlook 2003 will tie itself up trying to send a non-existent message. By non-existent message, I mean there are no messages in the Outbox waiting to be sent. It does this rather frequently. Most of the time closing Outlook and re-booting the computer re-sets whatever is hung up, but after a while it goes right back to the same old thing. Any suggestions?
  • 3. How do I view attachments without opening them.
I had another version of outlook on my computer. Something happened to lose all of my email and screwed all my settings. When I reinstalled outlook I lost the option to have picture attachments automatically appear in my email, in the preview pane or the actual email). I now have to open each individual attachment. It was much easier before and I have been through everything I can find in options and everywhere else. Anyone know how to set this up. Before you say it I was not using outlook 2007 before it was 2003 or earlier.

How to backup to external hard drive?

Postby VG9tIE5vbGFu » Sat, 25 Aug 2007 04:54:04 GMT

I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I want to back up the complete Outlook
2007 including contacts, e-mail, personal folders etc. Does the automatic
back up take care of this, or do I need to do someyhing additional?

Thanks.

The PFBackup tool copies your PST file, which contains all of your Outlook
folders. It does not, however, backup your account information.

Outlook doesn't do an automatic backup. For information on backing up your
Outlook data see;

Thanks..I'm a little green at this. What do you mean by account information?
What is the PFBackup tool?

Account information is the data about your email address(es) and servers.

You are the one that mentioned "automatic backup", and since the PFBackup
tool
is the most common, I assumed that's what you meant. If not, what
"automatic backup" do you mean? Outlook has no automatic backup by itself,
nor does Windows.

1.Backup PST file to External Hard Drive

Every night I backup my entire "documents and settings" folder and sub
folders to an external hard drive using a backup program called
BounceBack Pro, which backs up in native format (i.e. no compression
scheme is used). The PST file for my Outlook 2003 does not back up.
What do I have to do to make a copy on the external hard drive?

I tried installing the "backup PST" file from Microsoft, but it will
not let me make a backup. When I try to make the backup I get the
error message:
"Cannot copy Outlook: The process cannot access the file because
another process has locked a portion of this file."

I get the same error message if I try to copy the PST file from my c:\
hard drive into the appropriate folder on my e:\ external hard drive.
