• 1. Earned Value and Baselines
Hi All I have a series of master schedules rolled up containing many sub-projects and a resource pool. Works well. Using 2002 Std.. The schedules are all resourced and baselined. Some 700 separate project/activities, all resourced/ quoted and baselined separately; rolled up by team. My new boss wants Earned Value (CPI and SPI) for YTD from 1/10/03 to now. I said no problems, but the problem is I haven't had costings for the resources included in the original baselines, only working days effort. Project requires that the hourly or daily rates be populated before baselining for it to be reflected in EV.. By including pay rates in Resource Sheet I can handle from now forwards but I am wondering how I can get the history. I can obviously re-baseline but that would clobber the original baselined data. From which SLAs and performance bonuses are based. Even using baseline 1.2. etc wouldn't be any good, as I believe BCWS and BCWP don't target those fields. I might have to resort to xporting to Excel and using customised fields. Would appreciate your input/sugestions. Kind Regards........Geoff
  • 2. Changes in resource availability (quantity)
I have some resources that have changing availibilities due to leave & other requirement. Is there a way I can change the availability/ quanity (max units) of a resource for a period(s). Eg. There are normally 2 fitters available, but for the period from X to Y, only 1 is available I require this for using resource leveling, please don't laugh, but i have 700+ tasks that are quite complexly networked, and limited resources Thnaks Peter
  • 3. How do I run a macro in an IF formula
paleopc, First, Project does not have the option to change the background color of an individual cell as can be done in Excel. Second, even if the background color could be changed, a macro cannot be initiated by a formula in a custom field. But then, if you have a macro why would you want to try and initiate it with a formula? Macros are so much more versatile than formulas and they can be initiated through menu selection, a custom toolbar button, or in response to an Event such as clicking on a field. Hope this helps. How much problem is it for this process of switching to Active Directory.
How do I get the step by step process to switch to Active Directory?

John,

I don't know what you mean by ""switch to Active Directory?""

First you need to have an account with Administrative rights.

Once you login using this account you will have access to the Admin menu in
Project Web Access.

Admin>Manage Users and Groups>Groups>Add group

Group Name: [I have entered the same name as that in Active Directory as
the group name]
Description: [I have entered the same name as that in Active Directory as
the group name]
Active Directory Group: [enter the name of the Active Directory group you
want synchronised here]

Click on Save Changes.

thats all that should be required to synchronise with AD and you should end
up with the list of accounts in the groupname you selected above.

Hope this helps. :)

2.Active Directory Integration - Group Sync Errors

Hi,
We installed our project server 2 years ago prior to implementing Active
Directory. We have since implemented Active Directory and want to sync users
and resources from AD groups. We setup AD groups and configured project
server to use them; however, always get sync "Failed".

The sync is probably failing because project server was setup using non-AD
accounts.

Is there a way to get project to sync with AD short of reinstalling Project
Server using AD Accounts?

We are getting the following errors in event log:
*************
Component: AD Connector
File: AutoADProcess
Line: -1
Description:
GetGlobalCatalog: -2147016646-Automation
error

4.Microsoft Project Server Permissions and Active Directory

Hello everybody, hope all are well..it's been a long time since I last posted
here. My question today is how Microsoft Project Server affects the Active
Directory. My Administrator won't allow me to install and configure the
accounts of the EPM Solution myself and I wanted to use Active Directory, but
he is very touchy about the AD. What kind of effect does Microsoft Project
Server and the accounts used on Project Server have on Active Directory.
Does it change anything? What exactly does it do when it synchronizes
accounts? Any and all information on this subject would be very helpful!
Thank you very much fellow Project Experts!
