Eudora 5.1.1 does not delete attachments
by Roderick Allen » Tue, 12 Aug 2003 06:32:17 GMT
When I delete a message that has an attachment, the attached file is not
removed from the Attach directory. So my Attach directory is filling up
with many files. Is this the way it's supposed to work? If so, how is
one expected to manage the Attach/* files.
Also, is there a way to save attachments specifically in a different
directory (the way you can with MS Outlook)?
Thanks in advance,
Rod

Do you have the option to delete attachments when the trash is emptied
selected? If so, then the attachments should be deleted when you empty the
messages from the trash.
You want to save them all in a different location? If so, just change your
setting for the location of your attachment directory. It sounds like you
need to check all of your settings at Tools | options | attachments.
If you mean you want a way to save attached files to a different place
after you've received the messages, you can copy them to another location,
but the copy won't be accessible from within the message. To copy an
attached file, right-click on the attachment and select "save attachment
as".

I have this same problem. I also have selected to delete attachment when
deleted from trash. I keep things in trash about a week to 10 days. (For
years I've asked the Eudora folks for a feature to delete messages older
than N days...) Sometimes the attachments are removed. Sometimes they are
not. I don't know the pattern. I had to find "orphaned" attachments by
mounting the attachment folder on a UNIX machine and running a script to
look for instances of all of the attachments in all mailboxes. I came up
with a ton of orphaned attachments (attachments whose mail message was no
longer in any message).
I wish Qualcomm had a tool to look for such things. Otherwise, there is no
way (that I know of) to clean up the attachment folder.

Thanks, Fred. I am on the verge of writing a Perl script to do it.

1.Eudora 5/6: Deleting mail doesn't delete corresponding attachments
Hi,
I can't stand it. I upgraded from Eudora 5 to 6 hoping that elementary bugs
are out but they aren't :-(
I have the problem that always the attachments of received mail stay in my
user folder (attachment subdirectory) when I delete the mail (and empty the
trash).
I do have to go through the attachments folder manually which is a hassle.
Any Ideas? I already checked the options but didn' find a real matching
option. btw: what are automatic attachments?
thanks in advance

3.Eudora 7- Attachments are not gone from the Attach folder after I empty Trash
Hello,
Despite this option is ticked in "Options", attachments are not
automatically deleted after I empty the Trash folder.
Could someone please enlighten me how to fix it?
Thanks heaps!

4.Eudora Does Not Display Digest Attachments From Listserv
I receive several digests from vairous listservs. The digests consist
of a header message and attachments of all the messages forum
contributors have posted that day.
Even tho I have Eudora set to put text attachments in the body of the
message, only a few of the messages in a digest are put in the body.
The rest are missing.
If I check the option to put attachements in a MIME mailbox, Eudora
creates the mail box with all the attachments. However, this is a
cumbersome way to read a digest.
After I have read the digest and deleted the main message, Eudora
still keeps the mailbox it created and all the messages. Eudora is set
to trash attachments when Eudora is closed, but it doesn't. So, now I
manually delete the mailboxes and the corresponding .toc file.
What am I missing?? How do I get Eudora to put all digest attachments
in the body of the digest message, as it previously did.??
How do I get Eudora to empty the message, attachments and the Eudora
created attachments mailbox and corresponding .toc file when I empty
trash and/or closed Eudora??
Thanks for help.

5.Eudora 6.0.1.1 will not open Outlook Express EML attachments
When I click on EML attachments in Eudora I end up with a blank Outlook
Express panel -- no subject, no sender identified, no message. Any
suggestions how to fix or to do a workaround? I am running XP. Outlook
Express works well if set as my default mailer. It sure seems
incompaticle with Eudora, however.
Thanks
