  • 1. Warning launching attachment, Eudora 6.1.2
I've read the help and TFM, but still have a few Q's about warnings when launching an attachment in Eudora 6.1.2 (paid). The registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Qualcomm\Eudora\LaunchManager contains a string value WarnExtensions for each of several directories where files could be downloaded. Extensions in WarnExtensions are separated by the pipe symbol, with 2 pipe symbols at the end of the string. (Q1) Do the 2 consecutive pipe symbols at the end catch attachments with no extension? The manual says that I can add or remove extensions from the default list with the ini-file directives WarnLaunchExtension and WarnLaunchRemove, but it doesn't give an example. (Q2) What is the format of WarnLaunchExtension? Should I add WarnLaunchExtension=firstnewext|secondnewext| to [Settings] or is the final pipe symbol unnecessary? The Extra Warnings+ dialog in Tools->Options has the check box "Launch a program from a message". (Q3) Is this intended to prevent an HTML message from launching a program or is there another reason? The Extra Warnings+ dialog in Tools->Options has the check box "Launch a program externally". (Q4) Is this intended to prevent a seeminly-innocent attachment from launching a program on its own? • 2. Outgoing Mail Address Errors - Eudora 5.1
I sometimes make an address error in an outgoing message that has multiple addressees. Eudora informs me an error has been made and places a "broken" icon in the outbox message status column. I find the error and correct it, but I am never sure whether the correctly addressed messages have gone out or not. So I end up resending the message to the entire list with an apology for perhaps sending duplicate messages. The last time I made this sort of error I addressed a message to four people and wanted to "CC" the message to one other person. But I had I left off the final ">" in an address that should have read < XXXX@XXXXX.COM > and got the error message and broken icon.. If Eudora finds an error in one address of a multiple address message, does it stop that one but send the rest? Or, does Eudora stop the process immediately when it finds an error and not send the remaining messages that it has not gotten to yet? If it does something like that, does it look at the "To", "CC", and "BC" headings in that sequence, or in some other sequence? Thanks.
  • 3. MAILTO command not working
If I use the following command in START > RUN mailto: XXXX@XXXXX.COM then I get an error message referring to the previous location of my email program (Eudora). The emailler in Internet Options is set correctly but I suspect that the underlying data points to the previous directory location of Eudora. Where is MAILTO going to? I would like to edit whatever data MAILTO is being pointed at.
  • 4. Preserving Ads when running eliminating Spyware
I need to clean my system of Spyware (I am using Spybot S&D for that purpose). I understand that by so doing I could eliminate some of the components that Eudora uses to put ads on my free version of Eudora 5.2. Does anyone know what those components are? I know where the ads are kept, but I don't know what fetches these from the Eudora Server, and what elements (cookies, registry keys, etc..) are installed which might be recognized as spyware on my computer And if you don't know the answer, might you know how I could find out?
  • 5. how to make attachment directory by folder with filters
I'd like the "transfer to folder" option for filters to have a way to also move the attachments for those emails to a different directory. Is this possible? Why I want this: I subscribe to several yahoo groups that have emails with attached pictures. I have been able to set up filtes for the emails so each group has its own folder. What I'd like is a way to have the filter _also_ move the attachment to a directory for the folder to which the email was moved. Then I would have a "fantasy art" directory of attachments to the emails with subject "[fantasy art]", the same way that I have a folder of those emails. - Stanley

eudora 5.1+ / win2k + lates patches / smtp sending trouble ?

Postby fake » Mon, 25 Aug 2003 18:53:05 GMT

Hi all,

I'm having trouble with eudora 5.1 and windows 2000. Until a month ago
everythinh worked perfect. But right now when i try to send an email
with attachment > +/-5Kb the sending transaction locks up and returns
this message : 'Error writing to network : cause connection reset by
remote side 10054'. The strange thing is that when starting the same
eudora from windows 98 (it's a multiboot system) everything sends
perfect :-/ I've so far tried upgrading to the latest version but this
doesn't help.

I'm using win2k with al patches up to date, no firewall (dial up) and
mcafee 6. And the only thing I can can think of is that one of the
latest patches messed things up. :-/

Has anybody experienced something similar or an idea what could be the
problem here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Win2k Server and clients.
When I log in locally to a machine I can send e-mail (OE clients) without a
problem. When I log into the domain I get various unknown error messages
when trying to send, plus this one "the server responded 503.5.5.2 waiting
for rcpt command" Occassionaly, if I select Tools-recieve all", I can send
an e-mail. The error messages do not mention 550 or relaying.

We are hosting our e-mail externally, we can get incoming pop mail without a
problem and our isp has told us multiple times that they are not blocking
port 25.
Our firewall show smtp going out with no problems.
We just switched our dns to a new company, and it is pointing to them

Any Ideas, Is something messed up in AD or DNS?
