Agent moves Eudora icons.
by ashuat » Thu, 08 Jun 2006 00:47:26 GMT
Hi, I have just configured Agent so that when I like to send emails,
Agent opens Eudora automatically.
When Eudora has opened on the toolbar I always see some icons moved.
For example I see "Save file, Sort and Search Eudora" icons moved.
They have moved to second line of the Toolbar.
The Toolbar becames a thick sheet and thi icons move on the bottom (in
second line).
Every time I have move the icons to the right positions.
Many times every day.
Thanks for some info.

Hello,
If I remember correctly, the data concerning toolbars is saved in an ini
file ?
What about marking it as read-only, in its properties ?

Hello,
Well, the file is
C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application
Data\Qualcomm\Eudora\Eudora.ini
(all this is written on the same line)
In the Windows explorer, you have to right-click on it, and select the
"Properties" command.
You have a "Properties of Eudora.ini" dialog box that opens, and down
the "General" tab (the one that appears by default), you see an
"attributes" field, with several checkboxes.
Check the "read only" checkbox, and click on OK.
I tried that, I added a button on a toolbar, and the next time I opened
Eudora the button had disappeared.
The directories I mentioned are not hidden by default. Should one appear
to be, you would have to use the "Tools, options of the folders"
command, and in the Display tab, find a category "hidden files and
folders", in which you have to check "display hidden folders and files",
and validate.
Excuse if one of the texts is not exactly written the same way, I had to
translate from French.

Bad, any changes in Eudora will not be saved then.

Supposing sometimes you want to change the Eudora configuration, and
keep changes, then you can launch it with a batch containing this
=========== Begin of Ch_Eud.bat =========
ATTRIB -R "C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application
Data\QualComm\Eudora\Eudora.ini"
"C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora\Eudora.exe"
ATTRIB +R "C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application
Data\QualComm\Eudora\Eudora.ini"
=========== End of Ch_Eud.bat =========
(Ch_Eud.bat contains 3 lines)
but during that session of Eudora, you avoid using Agent.
In fact, if only Agent is a problem for Eudora, instead of protecting
Eudora.ini manually against writing as I said first, you can launch
Agent like this :
=========== Begin of Agent.bat ==============
ATTRIB +R "C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application
Data\QualComm\Eudora\Eudora.ini"
"C:\Program Files\Agent\Agent.exe"
ATTRIB -R "C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application
Data\QualComm\Eudora\Eudora.ini"
============ End of Agent.bat =============
(3 lines)
(the path to Agent has to be corrected)
and you have to know that if you make changes to the Eudora
configuration during that time, they will not be changed, or you have to
close Agent first.
This depends on the degree of modification ability you want to keep.
I said nothing about this, thinking that if you want to add a button or
move a window in Eudora once a year, you can remember you have to
uncheck the checkbox you checked to prevent modifications.

Try looking in C:\Program Files\Eudora\Data, or wherever Eudora's
Data subdirectory is located.

Hello,
Well, in the help menu, select the About command, and have an attentive
look at what is written, after the "Data" word, down the box.
If this does not help, you launch a search with the keys "Windows F",
and select "all drives and folders". Before validating, select the C: drive.
Of course, just in case, you do not forget what I said about hidden folders.

Eudora puts its data files wherever you specify when you install Eudora.
Do you have any idea what you specifed? If not, and you are using a
relatively recent version of Eudora, you can find the location of the dat
directory in Help | About Eudora.

It's probably easier to remake them. Penelope is totally
saturated with bugs. I use it for the same reason you do (foreign
correspondence), but I keep Eudora 7 on the same box as my mainstay.

5.moving Eudora files from 98se to already-installed Eudora on XP
Hi:
My uncle uses "bootit" to dual-boot his computer. He can choose
either win98se or winXP. He loves 98se, but is making the slow move
over to XP.
Here's the problem. He has used Eudora 7.1 on 98se for quite
some time, and has built up a lot of filles, messages, etc.
He has now started using another copy of Eudora 7.1 from inside
XP.
Is there any way to get all the old messages and other valuable
stuff from 98se and add them to the messages & other stuff already
in XP?
I am not familiiar with Eudora, but am quite capable with
computers (19 years), so if it can be done, and someone here is kind
enough to give the general proceedures, I'm confident that I can do
it for him.
Thanks very much.
