  • 1. Eudora sucking up all of the CPU time
I have been using Eudora for years and today after I had it open for hours like I always do, it started using all of the available CPU time and making the computer slow to a crawl. I searched the web and this group and found others who have had this problem over the years, but no solutions. I really hate the idea of giving up Eudora, but this is not workable. I tried shutting off the MS viewer, moodwatch and boss watch (which was already off) with no change. The problem is reduced when Eudora does not have the focus. Then the CPU usage ranges from 20% to 80% in an oscillation. Any clues about how to fix this?

is there any way to copy my junk filter from a fairly well behaved computer to a new install of eudora? tia ... steve
  • 3. Editing incoming emails
re: Eudora 6.2.5.6 I know you can edit incoming messages by clicking on the pencil icon. You can also right-click and "View Source" What I want to be able to do is edit in the view source screen - I use Uedit which has an excellent search and replace feature. Then save it in place, just as with the text edit tool. I know I can always save it elsewhere, but how can I edit the source and save the changes back to the original message? If it can't be done in v.6.2, how about 7 or 8? Thanks, MS
  • 4. Updating (Deleting) Addresses in Address Book List
I'm using Eudora 8.0, and although it works well for me, I have a question about maintaining the Address Book. Specifically, how do I remove names from an Address Book list? I have tried to open the list with Properties, but nothing I try allows me to delete any entry in it. So far, I must create a new list item (from memory of what the original list had) and omit the entry I'm trying to delete. Is there any way to remove an item from an Address Book list? TIA

earthlink send prob. w/ eudora 6

We'd appreciate a knowledgeable user telling us how to set up Eudora 6
to be able to send (we can receive/download) email now that Earthlink
has changed its smtp server to an "authenticated" mode.

The Earthlink tech support folk are worse than useless (clueless) and
the Earthlink website directions - just to change the smtp server to
earthlink smtp server value to smtpauth.earthlink.net - doesn't
work.

We got another email program to work by also changing the PORT from
that program's default to 587, as an Earthlink tech support person
suggested, but can't find where (if anywhere) or otherwise how in the
Eudora 6 "Options" menus to achieve that result for Eudora 6.

Thanks very much

On Wed, 09 Aug 2006 16:24:49 GMT, XXXX@XXXXX.COM wrotd:

When I have my SMTP server set as above, and under "Sending mail" I have
"Allow authentication" CHECKED (nothing else), and under "Secure Sockets
when sending" I have "If available, STARTTLS" set, and my username is set to
your email address (someone @earthlink.net), it all works just fine.

The above setting finds TLS available on the server at port 587 and uses it.

What about also trying:

smtpauth.earthlink.net:587

FYI, in Eudora v7.x there is a dedicated checkbox especially for this
port.

1.Trouble sending mail through Eudora on Earthlink?

send. I'm on Eudora 5.1 and my provider is Earthstink. Anyone else
having trouble sending mail?

2.Converting to Eudora from Earthlink account

I am helping a friend convert from Earthlink to Cox.net. He wants to
export his Earthlink address book and email boxes to Eudora. Anyone done
this?

I have used Eudora for years but am not familiar with Earthlink as an
ISP. Have searched both Eudora and Earthlink websites to no avail. Have
also googled the issue with little success.

It looks to me that I might be able to convert to Outlook then export to
Eudora. Anyone with any suggestions in this group?

3.Eudora on Earthlink

Having a terrible time changing from RoadRunner to Earthlink.net. Some of
the outgoing email messages go from Q to .... and then back to Q, with no
error message.

Normally they should go from Q to ..... to a check-mark indicating sent.

Any thoughts on where to check. I've cut out everything but two accounts in
Eudora and in Earthlink page.

4.SMTP, Earthlink, and Eudora

I got up this morning to discover that I could no longer send mail.
EarthLink, my ISP, has implemented some new SMTP security feature, and
it no longer allows Eudora to send anything.

I visited EarthLink's customer support center and found instructions
for reconfiguring Eudora, which did not solve the problem. I had two
chat sessions with support agents, in which they suggested several
things to try, none of which helped. The last suggestion was changing
Eudora's SMTP port from 25 to 587, which changed the error message I
was getting but didn't fix the problem.

At this point, whenever I try to send e-mail I get:

587: Error reading from network. Cause: Connection closed by foreign
host. (0)

Their final offer was that I pitch Eudora and use Outlook or their
proprietary e-mail client. Both are unappealing because I have a
considerable investment of time in a custom application that sends
e-mail by using Eudora as an ActiveX object. (This is for follow-up
on eBay auction sales.) If I changed mail readers, I'd have to
reprogram the interface. Also, of course, Outlook is a virus magnet.

Is anyone else having a problem with Eudora on EarthLink? Any
solutions found?

I'm currently using Eudora Pro 5.0. I'd be willing to update to the
current version if that would fix the problem, but EarthLink support
assures me it would not.

My email address is LLM041103 at earthlink dot net.

5.Eudora and Earthlink?
