System Cann't find the file specified Problem Opening files in Word 2007 on Vista

Postby Greg Creme » Thu, 20 Sep 2007 13:52:39 GMT

I am having a problem trying to open .doc and docx files from windows
explorer and also from outlook (attachments). If I double click on the
document in windows explorer, Word 2007 opens and then I get an error
message saying: "windows cannot find [insert full path and file here]. Make
sure you typed the name correctly and try again". I click ok, and then
double click the file again (with word running now) and it opens just fine.

If I try to open an attachment from outlook, I get the message: "The System
Cannot find the file specified". If I double click it to open it again, it
opens without a problem.

It is just annoying to have to try to open everything twice in order to open
it. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this problem? I am
running office 2007 pro on Windows Vista Ultimate.

Thanks,
Greg

Try running the Office Diagnostics which will reregister the Office products
in Windows again.

I ran the office diagnostics. It says that there are no problems in any of
the checks that it ran.

2.The System cannot find the file specified

I get this message when ever I open a word document and Microsoft word is not
running. The document will open once Word is running. I hope I make sense.
I am running Office 2003 but for some reason the older icons still show on my
desk top. Is there any help out there?

Daryl

3."The system cannot find the file specified"

I recently started getting an annoying error when trying to open Word
attachments from Outlook 2007 e-mails or from Windows Explorer. This only
happens when Word is not actively opened when I double-click the filename. It
does not happen with Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, or other applications.

In each case, I double click the file name, Word opens and then I get an
error message in the original application (Outlook or Explorer):

In Outlook, I get the error: "The system cannot find the file specified"
In Explorer, I get the errror: "Windows cannot find '[path/filename]'. Make
sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

In all cases, if I close the error box and then try re-opening the file (now
that Word has launched), the file opens.

If it matters, I run AVG as my antivirus.

This error just started in the last week. It's annoying, since my job causes
me to open numerous attachments throughout the day. Can you help fix this?

4.Vista Explorer cannot find Word 2007 file - important problem

Hi, I have Vista and Office 2007, and have a problem that's been reported a
few times on the Net, but without resolution.

When I click a Word file in Explorer, Word starts up but I get the error
message 'Window cannot find [pathname/documents/filename.doc]. Make sure you
have typed the name correctly and try again.'

The pathname is correct; the default file location in Word options is
correct, pointing to my Documents folder.

Once Word starts, if I click again on the file it opens. If I open Word
first, I can open the file through File->Open. If I click any Excel or htm
file in Explorer etc., they open OK. It's just Word that causes the problem.

All my file and program associations look correct. Winword is the default
program for .doc and .docx. The problem occurs for both. I don't have Word
2003 installed. I have reinstalled Office 2007.

So I've tried all I can think of, but this incredibly annoying problem
persists, and I'd be grateful for help.

Thanks,
David
